Halal Scanner - Dalil

Food & E Number Checker

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Type any ingredient or E number and see the ruling with the source it came from. Where rulings differ, both positions stay visible and you choose. You are standing in a shop holding a packet, reading an ingredient list printed in four point type, and it says "mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids". You want to know what that is and where it came from. That is the whole reason this app exists. Dalil means proof. Type an ingredient or an E number and you get the ruling with the sources it was drawn from sitting underneath it. Point the camera at the panel and Dalil reads the lines as they come into focus, ruling on each one and filling a ledger you can watch as it goes. Why it is built this way I stopped trusting halal apps that answer with a green tick. A tick is somebody's opinion with the reasoning taken out, and on a question this personal that is not enough. So every reading here opens as a chain you can walk: the ingredient exactly as the packet spells it, what it actually is with a link to the regulation defining it, and what published rulings say with a link to each one. Disagree with a conclusion and you can go read what it was built from. Where scholars differ, so does Dalil Some ingredients are genuinely disputed. Gelatine, carmine, emulsifiers built on fats of unstated origin, vinegar made from wine. Dalil does not pick a winner for you. It shows both positions with the bodies that hold them, marks the ingredient mushbooh by default, and lets you set your own position topic by topic. Change your mind a month later and both positions are still sitting there. What it refuses to tell you Dalil will never say a product is halal and never say a product is certified. Slaughter method is not printed on a label. Alcohol percentage is not printed on a label. The most an honest label reader can claim is that it found nothing flagged on that list, so that is exactly what Dalil claims. Certification belongs to certifiers, and their mark on the package is the answer. What is inside the app A dictionary of 291 additives and 67 ingredients, E100 through E1518, and 11 topics where published rulings genuinely disagree. Pork derivatives, alcohol derived additives and insect colours are marked haram or mushbooh with the reason attached, never as a bare word you have to take on trust. There is no account, no sign in, and no network code anywhere in it. It reads labels in airplane mode from the moment you install it, and nothing you scan leaves the phone, because there is nowhere for it to go. The reference layer costs nothing. Every scan, every lookup, every verdict, every source and every ruling position, with no limit, because the reason an ingredient is doubtful IS the answer and putting that behind a wall would be a strange thing to do. The Dalil Pass adds unlimited history, exporting a reading with all of its sources, one tap ruling presets, and a pantry of the ingredients you check most often. Offered weekly or yearly. Subscriptions renew until cancelled. Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation. It renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can cancel any time in your Apple account settings. Prices are shown in your own currency on the purchase screen before you buy.
