UNDERSTAND EVERY WORD Each word opens onto three tabs: • Meaning — the core meaning, word type, JLPT level and a note on nuance and usage • Breakdown — kana and romaji, then each kanji with its reading in this word, how the sound changes, and other words it appears in (Pro) • Examples — real Japanese sentences using the word, with furigana, romaji and a translation (Pro) Usage notes are written for every word from N5 to N1, and every kanji has its own note, in English, French, German and Spanish. WRITING THAT CHECKS YOU Writing practice checks every stroke as you draw it — its direction, its shape and its place in the stroke order. A wrong stroke shakes and shows a hint; miss it three times and Yumo draws it in for you. Finish a word and the next one follows on its own.
