Add a New File menu to the right-click menu. Create text, Markdown, code, Office docs and your own templates in the current folder — no app to open first. Spawn Files adds a "New File" submenu to the right-click menu - so you can create a file right where you need it, without opening an app first. Right-click empty space, right-click a folder, or use the file manager toolbar, and choose New File. Pick a folder and the file is created inside it. Every new file is named uniquely and revealed and selected, ready to rename. Every feature is enabled. Free. BUILT-IN FILE TYPES Text, Markdown, Rich Text, CSV, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, Swift and Python are one click away. A More submenu holds the rest, grouped for quick scanning: • Web & Styles - TypeScript, TSX, JSX, SCSS • Configuration - YAML, XML, TOML, plist, .env, package.json, tsconfig.json • Languages - Shell, SQL, Go, Rust, Java, C, C++, Ruby, PHP • Documents - LaTeX, SVG • Project Files - Dockerfile, Makefile, .gitignore • OpenDocument - ODT, ODS, ODP Shell scripts arrive with a shebang and the executable bit already set. Project files like Dockerfile and Makefile are created with no extension at all — the cases macOS makes awkward to do by hand. YOUR OWN TEMPLATES Drop any file into the Templates folder and it appears in the menu — a styled document, a config file, a boilerplate script. It's copied whenever you pick it. PLACEHOLDERS Text templates expand {{date}}, {{time}}, {{datetime}}, {{year}}, {{filename}}, {{basename}}, {{author}} and {{uuid}} as the file is created. FROM CLIPBOARD Turn whatever is on the clipboard into a file — text becomes .txt, an image becomes .png. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS YOUR MENU, YOUR ORDER Hide the types you never use and drag the rest into the order you want. Each entry carries its real document icon. THE APP The app window is where the menu is configured: • Menu - show, hide and reorder file types, and set their shortcuts • My Templates - add and remove your own templates • Options - what happens after a file is created, icons, and your name for {{author}} • Setup - switch the extension on After installing, enable Spawn Files in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → File Manager Extensions.
