PointJar
Family chores & rewards game
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad
Kids earn points for chores and good behaviour, then trade them for rewards. Tasks and rewards are inspired by research on child motivation.
PointJar is a family points game: your child earns points for completed chores and good behaviour and trades them for rewards you agreed on. No nagging, no fridge charts — everything runs in the app and parents always have the final say.
The app is free, with no ads and no tracking. Tasks and rewards are built on established international research on child motivation. Try the demo without signing in.
HOW IT WORKS
• Your child taps a finished task — you get a notification
• You approve with OK or decline with X — points are added automatically
• Kids request rewards from the shop — approved by you as well
• The child's level only ever grows — motivation stays high
FOR PARENTS
• Your own catalogue of tasks and rewards (a starter list is included)
• Deductions with a daily cap — the balance never drops below zero
• Undo mistakes within 24 hours, a full history of every point
• A second parent has the same rights as you, grandparents watch; everyone joins with a code or by e-mail
• Several children in one family, each with their own points and goal
FOR KIDS
• Their own screen with a wallet, a goal and a shop
• Kids take back a task or reward request tapped by mistake
• The goal reward fills up with every point saved
• Celebration animations for reached goals and new levels
FAMILY-SAFE
• Every family sees only its own data
• Nobody can enter a family without a code from a parent
• Apple or Google sign-in, no extra passwords
Available in English, German, Czech and Slovak — every family member picks their own language. Try the demo right from the welcome screen, no account needed.
more Dark mode: choose Light, Dark or Match system in Account. Parents get a new History tab like the child's, by day and including rejected tasks, where they can play and delete voice messages. Cards in Approve are easier to swipe. The welcome screen has an option for a child with their own account. When your sign-in expires, the app takes you straight to sign-in. Bug fixes.
1.6.8 1d ago
The child's Home is now stories: each of today's tasks fills the screen, hold to report it done, the jar with the goal comes last. Approving is simpler: one main action, several tasks at once, undo within 24 hours. Voice messages on tasks, parents reply by voice. Parents can report tasks for a child on their own phone. Optional parent lock. New guide with screenshots. In Family you can chip in for running costs. Better large text and screen reader support. Bug fixes.

Approving is simpler: one main action per card, several tasks at once with one link, and a decision can be undone within 24 hours even after closing the app. Voice messages: the child records a message with a task, the parent replies by voice right away, messages can be deleted. A parent on their own phone reports tasks for the child like on a tablet. Child / Parent / Family view on every tab, optional parent lock, floating Record button. Better large text and screen reader support. Bug fixes.
1.6.6 Oct 6
New look: a bottom bar with four tabs for the child (Home, Tasks, Shop, History) and the parent (Approve, Points, Catalog, Family). Home with the jar and task coins, approvals as a deck of cards with undo, quick points in two taps. Simpler adding of family members and children. Android: fixed a sign-in issue where the app could not see your family. Further bug fixes.
1.6.2 Oct 2
Bug fixes and small improvements in the Family tab.
1.6.1 Sep 29
New Family tab: every member in one place, each with their role and access status. Adding a member takes three questions: who, their name and how they get into the app. A child can have their own phone, a shared tablet or nothing yet, with a parent recording the points. A code belongs to a specific member and shows which family you are joining and as whom before you join. Access can be paused and restored. The last parent hands the family to another adult when leaving. New guide. Bug fixes.
1.6.0 Sep 28
Security fixes. The change log in family settings is easier to read. The notification archive no longer says that handled requests are waiting for approval, and when nothing is waiting the app says so clearly. The help bubble moves out of the way while you scroll, so it no longer covers buttons.
1.5.28 Sep 27
Approve reported tasks and reward requests straight from the notification: Approve, Decline and Later buttons also appear on Apple Watch and Wear OS watches, so you do not have to take out your phone. A child using a paired tablet no longer shows up as not signed in. On a tablet in landscape the reward shop, the initial setup and the celebration all fit. Leaving a family and deleting your account now work reliably.
1.5.26 Sep 26
Streak bonuses now tell you where you stand: under the task you see how many days you already have and how many are left, and once you qualify, the tick box pulses. Tapping a bonus you have not earned no longer sends your parent a request they would just decline. A streak can also be counted from specific tasks, so a movement bonus really tracks movement. The kid screen no longer shows the same thing twice, and the notification archive is in the language you picked. The Write to us panel keeps a margin from the edges.
1.5.25 Sep 24
Streak bonuses now tell you where you stand: under the task you see how many days you already have and how many are left, and once you qualify, the tick box pulses. Tapping a bonus you have not earned no longer sends your parent a request they would just decline. The kid screen no longer shows the same thing twice, and the notification archive is finally in the language you picked in the app. The Write to us panel keeps a margin from the edges, and the buttons at the end of adding a member are back to a normal width.
1.5.24 Sep 23
Adding a family member is now a guided flow: one question at a time — who you are adding, which child, whether they get their own phone or will use your shared tablet, and how you hand them the code. No disabled buttons without an explanation, and a single place to add a child instead of three. An account without access is no longer a dead end - it links to My account, and leaving the family only needs a confirmation. The in-app guide is organised into eight situations based on what you are dealing with.
1.5.23 Sep 22
On a shared tablet, one kid opening the app no longer clears a sibling's notification from the tray – only the signed-in kid's own notifications go, even after the app was fully closed. The in-app guide now covers connecting a kid's device without an account and PINs for several kids on one device. Security fixes and small improvements.
1.5.21 Sep 21
On a tablet shared by several kids, notifications carry the kid's name and each kid sees only their own recent events. Tapping a notification switches to the right kid, for parents with several kids too. A parent can set a PIN for a kid under Family → Settings: on a shared device the kid's account opens only after entering it. Confirmations after sending an invitation stay visible with the keyboard open, and kids' devices clearly show who is signed in.
1.5.20 Sep 20
A release about security and stability. Links and images in notices from PointJar are now checked, so no outside address can reach the app. On Android the app no longer goes into the phone's automatic backup, where your sign-in could have been misused — after moving to a new phone, sign in again. We also fixed a bug where a screen left in the background for a while failed to load and reported that you had no permission.
1.5.16 Sep 18
Fix for freezing after unlocking the phone. Notices from PointJar no longer appear in a system window, which on some Android phones stopped responding to taps and forced you to close the app. The notice is now part of the app itself and closes with the button or the back gesture. If the app opens before the phone's connection is up, loading is retried twice instead of once.
1.5.15 Sep 17
With more than one kid, each circle shows how many tasks and requests are waiting for your approval — even for the kid you are not currently viewing. The balance card now carries the kid's name, and the ratio bar shows points, not just the number of tasks. We also tidied up Members and Settings: quiet hours have their own Save button, removing access asks for confirmation, and a kid with their own account is invited by e-mail right in Settings.
1.5.11 Sep 15
Quiet hours now cover every notification, not just reminders. Inside the window a message arrives silently, with no sound and without waking the screen, and it is waiting for you in the morning like any other.
Also new:
- Signing out is now complete.
- Your phone fills in names and e-mail addresses.
- The kid switcher is clearer: the selected kid pops, the others are outlines.
- The wrong-code message now appears where you tapped.
Fixes:
- Double-tapping Add kid no longer creates two kids with the same name. The same goes for tasks, rewards, points and family members.
- The Kid screen no longer claims the family has no kid when the data simply failed to load. It shows a message with a Try again button instead.
- When loading fails, the app reports it to support on its own, so we learn about an outage before you have to write to us.
- The help bubble no longer covers the last line of text.
We also updated the privacy policy and terms of service, effective 12 September 2026.
1.5.10 Sep 13
A kid's history now also shows a task or reward a parent did not approve. The celebration for an approved reward starts right away, even with the app open. Vibrations are stronger and differ by event, and the parent screen now vibrates too. Celebrations have new animations and points count up on the card. With Reduce Motion turned on, the celebration comes without flying particles. When a kid deletes their account, parents get a message and Members shows it.
1.5.7 Sep 12
Every kid now really has their own: invite a second kid by e-mail and they get their own profile and their own points. When inviting, you see which kids are free and when a new one will be created. The welcome screen is shorter, with the studies tucked into a What the research says section. If something fails, the error appears right by the button. When a member leaves the family, the others are notified. Renaming a kid now applies everywhere.
1.5.5 Sep 11
The family grows with you: a second parent has the same rights as the founder, there can be several children and you switch between them. The Family tab shows invitation status, lets you resend or cancel invitations and remove a child (history is kept). Notifications by category, quiet hours for reminders and an in-app notification archive. Record points? confirmation for direct entries, reserved points while a reward is pending, your own name. The welcome e-mail arrives once you join a family.
1.5.4 Sep 10
What's in this release:
• notifications for the whole family: goal reached, new level, new member (viewers too); reminders to parents about pending approvals after 4, 10 and 18 hours
• notification archive "What happened recently" on the child's and parent's screen, the whole family under Admin → Changes
• e-mail invitation with confirmation; the link in the e-mail opens the app directly (Universal Links / App Links)
• Baloo 2 typeface instead of Fredoka (č ľ ť ď ň ř ě ů were missing), icon unified with iOS
• family time zone taken from the parent's phone; "today" and daily limits start at the same midnight as the database
• badge and notification tray are cleared when the app opens
• updated guide and legal texts (effective 7 September 2026)
• security fixes
1.5.0 Sep 8
Kids pick their own avatar from 40 characters; parents can change it.
Tasks are grouped into categories that expand with a tap.
After creating a family, the app helps you add the child, the other parent and a viewer: with a code or an account e-mail that joins automatically.
Invitations include a download link and the code fills in by itself on the new device.
New screen Why PointJar exists, with the studies behind tasks and rewards.
Better layout with large text, support on every screen.
1.4.0 (27) Sep 6
A more playful child screen and a faster way to what just happened.
- A jar that really fills up: when points arrive, the level jumps and settles with a bounce. The balance counts up, task boxes and reward cards hop.
- Gentle vibrations on tap, on new points and on big celebrations.
- Back to School Challenge: a welcome on first launch, a distinct progress card and a permanent badge once completed.
- Tapping a notification or the dot opens the right screen and highlights the item it is about.
1.3.3 (26) Sep 5
Back to School Challenge: from 8 to 30 September, collect completed tasks right on the child screen and earn a medal.
- Fixed an issue where returning to the child or parent screen could show the "Something went wrong" card instead of the content.
- More reliable error reporting: if something does go wrong, the report reaches us even after the app restarts.
Thanks to everyone who reported the issue.
1.3.2 (25) Sep 4
PointJar 1.3.0 — our biggest update yet!
A FRESH LOOK
The whole app now feels like a paper notebook: bold outlines, happy colours, zero clutter.
CELEBRATIONS
An approved task, a new level or a reached goal deserves a proper party — confetti, fireworks, golden rain… a different surprise every time.
A CLEARER PARENT SCREEN
Three tiles: Overview (what needs your approval), Activities and Rewards. Edit tasks and rewards right there — no digging through settings. Whatever doesn't fit your family, just switch off.
A NEW SHOP
Your child sees at a glance what they can afford: "You can afford it! and Trade, or how much is missing and "Save up for this".
LITTLE THINGS THAT HELP
• A dot lets you know when something needs your attention.
• The app locks while saving — no double taps.
• A question or a problem? Tap the bubble at the bottom left.
• Improved stability.
1.3.0 (19) Sep 2
Dark mode: choose Light, Dark or Match system in Account. Parents get a new History tab like the child's, by day and including rejected tasks, where they can play and delete voice messages. Cards in Approve are easier to swipe. The welcome screen has an option for a child with their own account. When your sign-in expires, the app takes you straight to sign-in. Bug fixes.
