Machilingual helps you guide visitors around your own town in English.
Someone asks you for directions and you freeze. "Is this your first time in Japan?" and then nothing. Machilingual gets you to the point where the words come out, two minutes at a time.
- Two minutes a day, three sentences
Today's set is three sentences and takes about two minutes. Days you practice fill in on the calendar; a day off breaks the streak. There is no way to buy it back.
- Pronunciation scored in three parts
You get scores for pronunciation, rhythm and linking, and only the words that need work are colored. The scoring runs on your device, so what you say is never sent to a server.
- 35 units, 120 lessons, 360 sentences
Shops, directions, trains and buses, how to eat, hot springs, shrines, emergencies, saying goodbye. Every line is written for the person doing the guiding.
- 30 stories
Practice a whole conversation: listen to the other person, then take your turn.
- Town guide (Asakusa, Fukuoka, Katsunuma)
Practice spot by spot, with a map and photos, until you can say "This is Kaminarimon Gate" in English. Two to three minutes per spot.
- English or Japanese interface
Switch the language in Settings, so the app works whether or not you read Japanese.
- No sign-up needed
No email address, no password. Your practice records are saved on your device. When you change phones, protect them with a passkey to move them over (a copy is then kept on our server for the move).
About Membership
Some towns and chapters are for members. Daily practice, pronunciation scoring and the stories work without joining. Members also see no ads in the app.
