Hot days still have a window. Breed, height, age and coat set your dog's line; Pawground weighs ground heat, rain, snow, thunder and wind to find the safe hours.
When can we walk the dog today?
At 77°F in the air, asphalt can pass 122°F, and paw pads can start taking
damage around 125°F. But the ground cools as the sun drops.
Pawground finds that line, tuned to your dog.
■ Which hours today you can go out
Pawground lays the day out from morning to night.
Where the color changes is where the walk becomes a wait.
The next window you can walk in sits at the top of the screen.
■ Not dogs in general. Your dog.
On the same street, a pug and a golden reach their limit at different times.
Breed, height, age and coat all move the line.
- Flat-faced dogs can't shed heat by panting the way other dogs can
- The lower a dog stands, the more ground heat reaches them
- Puppies and seniors regulate their temperature more slowly

■ Rain doesn't always mean no
Rain cools the ground.
An hour that would have been a no in full sun can become a yes in the rain.
Thunder, strong wind, heavy rain and snow underfoot are a no whatever the
ground temperature is.
Pawground keeps the ground and the weather as two separate judgments,
and always tells you which one is driving the answer.
■ Check it with your own hand
You don't have to take the app's word for it.
Hold the back of your hand to the ground and see if you can keep it there
for seven seconds — known as the 7-second test vets recommend.
It's built in, and you can log what you found.
■ Walks log the weather for you
When you went out, the air and the ground at the time, pee, poo, a note.
Over time you start to see which hours are always the hard ones.
Look back by month, as a list or on a calendar.

■ Your records stay on your phone
There is no server behind this app, and no account.
Every walk record, and every route you walked, stays on your iPhone.
Your location is used only to fetch the weather, and never reaches the developer.
To keep the app going, it shows ads from Google (AdMob).
To serve them, Google may receive your approximate region and device information.
The app never passes your location, your dog's details or your walk records to Google.

- Ground temperature is an estimate from weather data. Shade, surface material and wind all shift it. Always check with your own eyes and hand before you go.
