Now reads ingredient lists straight from the package, on your phone — so you get an answer even for products no database has yet. GlutenTrace reads the ingredient list and tells you what is actually there — including what it cannot be sure about. Scan a barcode, or photograph the ingredient list itself. Your phone reads the label using Apple's built-in text recognition, so you get an answer even for products no database has yet. WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT Most gluten apps give you a green tick or a red cross. Real labels are rarely that simple. "May contain traces" is a voluntary warning. There is no legal threshold behind it, and manufacturers choose whether to print it at all. Researchers have measured gluten above 20 ppm in roughly the same share of products carrying the warning as those without it. So we never show it as a flat red. We tell you what that line can and cannot tell you — and we word it differently depending on whether you have coeliac disease, a wheat allergy, or gluten sensitivity, because the advice genuinely differs. We also tell you when we are not sure. Unqualified "starch", "flavouring", "caramel colour" and yeast extract can all carry gluten without the label resolving it. Other apps stay silent about these. We name them. HOW IT WORKS • Scan a barcode to look the product up • Or photograph the ingredient list — read on your phone, not on a server • Gluten sources are marked in the ingredient text, so you can see them yourself • Set your condition once: coeliac, wheat allergy, or sensitivity ALWAYS FREE • Unlimited scanning, barcodes and ingredient lists • The safety verdict, and the reasoning behind it • Which ingredient is the gluten source • Your own list of products, shareable with whoever does the shopping • No account, no ads, no data selling GlutenTrace Pro adds the full ingredient list with gluten marked in red, a product photo whenever the database has one, how old the data is, unlimited history, every article, and restaurant cards in six languages for travelling. It supports a family-run project instead of advertising. WHO IS BEHIND IT GlutenTrace is built by the family behind Renmel (renmel.dk), a Danish site about coeliac disease. The articles in the app are ours, built on published research, with the disagreements left in rather than smoothed over. IMPORTANT GlutenTrace is an informational tool, not medical advice. Ingredient data can be incomplete or out of date, and manufacturers change recipes. Always check the packaging yourself — especially if your reaction is severe. Product data from Open Food Facts, used under the Open Database License. SUBSCRIPTION GlutenTrace Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. • Pro Yearly — 129 DKK per year • Pro Monthly — 19 DKK per month Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel it in your device Settings. We spent this release on what you wrote to us about. PHOTOGRAPH IT INSTEAD OF TYPING IT When a product is missing from the database, you can now photograph the ingredient list as you submit it. Your phone reads the text and you only correct what came out wrong. Nobody types out a whole ingredient list. EVERY PAGE OF THE LABEL When the text wraps around a tin, take several photos. Before, only the first was used - the rest disappeared without a word. WE SAY SO WHEN WE COULDN'T READ IT If the text comes back as loose fragments, you are told and asked for another photo, instead of a calm "nothing found" on something we could not read. WHY AN INGREDIENT IS UNCERTAIN "Flavouring", "starch", "yeast extract" - now it says why they are unresolved, and what the rules are where you shop. Free. THE STALE DATA WARNING IS NOW FREE If the database information is over a year old, everyone is told. A barcode does not change when the recipe does. OATS ARE YOUR CHOICE In Settings you can choose to avoid oats entirely. Certified gluten-free oats then turn yellow instead of green - the gluten test does not cover avenin. MORE LISTS (PRO) Split your products into separate lists - sweets, snacks, dinners - and send just the one that's needed. Plus: copy the ingredient list with one tap, and a few more hidden gluten names in the vocabulary.
