Five animated islands teach you where hold and why. Mark hotspots, sweep the sonar, build a lure, and turn every discovery into an illustrated field notebook. Anyone can be handed a map of good spots. WaterDetective teaches you to make one yourself. It is an interactive field school built around a single skill: standing in front of an unfamiliar stretch of water and working out, from what you can see, where the are and what they are doing. The app is not a list of articles. It is five animated island environments arranged around a lighthouse, and you learn by working inside them. Water Explorer trains your eye on the surface. You study a living lake — depth changes, weed lines, current seams, overhanging shade, inflows, sunken timber, rock — and mark the five places most likely to hold. When you submit, the water goes transparent and shows you where they actually were, with the environmental reason for each one. A second drill puts a sonar head in your hand so you can sweep the bottom for drop-offs, humps, channels and submerged trees, then predict which species uses each feature. Behavior Lab covers what moves once you have found them. Temperature, oxygen, light level, barometric pressure, spawning season, feeding windows and predator pressure all shift through a simulated day, and you learn to anticipate the shift rather than react to it. One drill asks you to predict where a moving school will go next, with wind and light changing under you. Another runs a full day on a dial and asks you to pick the windows worth. Tackle Workshop is where equipment stops being a shopping list and becomes a set of decisions. Rods, reels, line, hooks, sinkers, floats and lure types are laid out for you to combine against a specific scenario — a clear mountain lake, cloudy sky, moderate wind, pike feeding — and every result explains the physics behind the right answer. You can also build a lure from scratch, choosing colour, size, weight, action and buoyancy, then drop it into an underwater scene and watch respond to what you made. Academy is pure technique, scored on accuracy. Place casts against wind and obstacles, tie knots through timed gestures, guide a lure past snags by controlling retrieve speed and rod angle, and learn to approach a bank without putting every down. Expedition Journal ties it together. Regions open one at a time — alpine lakes, rivers, reservoirs, marshes, tropical lagoons, coastal estuaries, deep freshwater — each with its own puzzles, species, local tactics and hidden discoveries. Rare conditions surface on their own: an insect hatch, fog, a sudden squall, an algal bloom, a clarity change. Spotting one opens material you cannot reach any other way. What you can do - Mark holding water on a living lake and get an underwater reveal explaining every answer - Sweep a virtual sonar and identify drop-offs, weed beds, humps, channels, rock and timber - Predict school movement as wind, light and pressure change around you - Run a full day cycle and identify the feeding windows worth - Match rod, reel, line, hook, sinker, float and lure to a stated set of conditions - Design a lure by colour, size, weight, action and buoyancy, then test it underwater - Drill casting accuracy, knot tying, retrieve control and quiet approach against the clock - Unlock seven region types, each with its own species, tactics and environmental puzzles - Collect observation sketches, habitat maps, lure blueprints and regional guides - Track streaks, accuracy and mastery across every topic in a personal progress record Learning unlocks in order, so nothing appears before the idea underneath it is solid. Every completed lesson pays out Field Notes, and those Field Notes assemble into illustrated journals you keep. The whole app runs offline. There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no connection required — your journal, scores and settings are stored on your device and nowhere else.
