Two thirds of new words fade in a day. PitterPatter tracks each card and brings it back right before you forget. 13,488 English words, CEFR A1 to C, a day at a time.
Ever shelved a vocabulary book with the first thirty pages black with notes and the rest still spotless?
The problem isn't willpower. It's order. Nobody can tell by feel what to review and when. PitterPatter is an English vocabulary app that works it out for you: 13,488 words from CEFR A1 to C. Learn them in your own language, with menus and meanings in Korean, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified or Traditional), Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Spanish, or French. All you have to do is today's cards.
“What should I study today?”
The app picks for you. It starts with the 1,067 words of A1, then runs through A2, B1, and B2 to C, in 272 Days of 50 flashcards.
“I saw it once. Why didn't it stick?”
That's how memory works.
In 1885, Hermann Ebbinghaus drew the forgetting curve: two thirds or more of something new is gone within a day. But recall it right before you forget, and the curve flattens. This is the spacing effect, confirmed by a 2006 meta-analysis of 317 experiments from 184 papers.
“So when does it ask me again?”
The moment your chance of remembering drops to 90%.
PitterPatter draws a forgetting curve for every card and asks again just as the memory starts to blur. Each right answer pushes the next review out, from 10 minutes to months, and each miss pulls it back in.
It all runs on FSRS, the spaced repetition algorithm built into Anki, refined on 700 million reviews from 10,000 real learners.
“How much do I know right now?”
Every word has a temperature: where it sits on its forgetting curve, turned into a color. Fresh words are a warm green, fading ones cool to orange, and words you keep missing sink to red.
“How far have I come?”
Track your streak and accuracy, look back on a heatmap, and see when you'll finish at this pace.
“American or British?”
Your choice.
Set it once, and the spelling (color or colour), the IPA, and the voice all switch to match. Open a word to see both transcriptions side by side and hear each accent.
“What if a word has several meanings?”
Each part of speech gets its own line.
As a noun, lead is the front, a clue, or a metal; as a verb, it means to guide. Each line lists its irregular forms, even ones that split by meaning: tear is tore, torn when it means rip, but teared when eyes water. If the sound differs, so do the IPA and audio.
“Why no example sentences?”
Because they don't help you memorize words.
For every feature, we asked: “Could you still memorize words without it?” Example sentences, rankings, friend lists, and logins didn't make the cut. The card holds the word, IPA, meaning, part of speech, and the other spelling when US and UK differ.
“Why no rankings?”
Because someone else's pace shouldn't become your yardstick.
New words per day, the review limit, target retention, when your day starts: you decide all of it. No notifications, no accounts. Your history stays on your device, and you can export it to move to a new one.

Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
- Menus and word meanings now come in nine languages: Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Spanish, and French. Choose yours in Settings → Language.
- Study settings now have their own button on the Study tab, just left of the gear. Change new cards per day, the daily review limit, and target retention right there.
- Word lists can now hide the words themselves: look at the meaning and recall the word. Hidden text sits under clean bars that follow its shape, and long words no longer get cut off.
- Change the voice right from the gear on the study screen. Pick one and the current word plays in that voice.
- Reordered the words within each deck so common, basic words are spread evenly across Days. Words keep their study history, saved status, and notes.
- Fixed pronunciation sometimes not playing when you reveal several hidden rows in a row.
- Fixed IPA errors, filled in missing irregular forms, and redid the audio for some words.
