Mars Missions: Red Planet

Ad-Free - Mars Mission Guide

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Explore every Mars mission from Mariner to Perseverance. Interactive 3D globe, landing sites, mission videos, rover profiles, and a quiz. The Red Planet in your pocket. Mars Missions: Red Planet — Explore the History of Mars Exploration From the first flybys of the 1960s to the rovers driving across the surface today, Mars Missions: Red Planet brings the complete history of Mars exploration to your fingertips. Whether you're a space enthusiast, a student, or simply curious about humanity's robotic reach across the Solar System, this app covers every mission — the triumphs, the famous failures, and the machines that made them. Completely free — no ads, no accounts, nothing locked behind a purchase. There's an optional tip jar if you'd like to support development. 3D MARS GLOBE The interactive 3D globe is your home screen, wrapped in a real Viking-mission surface map. Every landing site — successful or lost — is pinned on the surface. Rotate and zoom Mars freely, then tap any pin to jump straight to that mission. You can also jump to any landing site from the mission details. EXPLORE EVERY MISSION Browse more than 50 missions spanning six decades, organized by decade, with a section for missions still to come. From Mariner and the Soviet Mars probes to Viking, the great American rovers, and modern missions from Europe, India, the UAE and China — every chapter of the story is here. MISSION VIDEOS Watch archive footage for Viking, the rovers, and other key missions, streamed directly in the app. ROVERS & LANDERS Meet the machines that worked the surface — Sojourner, the twin rovers Spirit and Opportunity, Curiosity, Perseverance, the Ingenuity helicopter, Viking, Phoenix, InSight and Zhurong. Read their stories, see their photos, and find out how long each one lasted. MISSION IMAGES Every mission has its own image — spacecraft photos, rover views, and agency imagery. Tap to view full screen with pinch-to-zoom. ON THIS DAY Open the app and discover if a Mars mission launched on today's date in history. MARS QUIZ Test your knowledge with a built-in quiz covering mission facts, dates, landing sites and more. SEARCH AND FILTER Find missions instantly by name or country. Filter by nation — USA, Soviet Union, Europe, India, China, the UAE and more. Toggle between a visual grid and a compact list view. NASA PICTURE OF THE DAY A tab with NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day — a new image of the universe every day, with NASA's own explanation. Fetching each new picture needs an internet connection, and the latest one stays on your device, so there's still something to see when you're offline. WORKS OFFLINE Every mission, image and fact is bundled with the app, so the app works perfectly well with no internet connection at all. Only two things reach out to the internet: mission videos, and fetching each day's new NASA picture. Without a connection everything else carries on as normal. BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED A dark space-inspired theme puts the focus on the missions. Designed for both iPhone and iPad. Mission data sourced from publicly available historical records. Images represent spacecraft photography and agency imagery from NASA, ESA, ISRO, CNSA and others.
