A tile in Control Centre. Today's Lamp and Continue Reading are now Controls, so either can go in Control Centre, on the Lock Screen, or on the Action button. Both are free. Any book, from the Home Screen. Search your iPhone for Habakkuk — or Hebrews, or Job — and open it without opening the app first. All sixty-six. Find the verse you marked. Search now looks through your own bookmarks, highlights and notes as well as Scripture, so "the verse I highlighted about waiting" can find it even when those are not the words in it. It happens on your device, and nothing about it is sent anywhere. The Daily Lamp knows when your morning is. In the Smart Stack it now asks to be shown around the time you set your reminder for, rather than at a fixed hour. Also fixed: Continue Reading opened the right passage when asked of Siri, but not always from a widget, a Shortcut, or the Watch.

Ready for iOS 27. A new look. Today opens on a landscape painted for the day's theme — a valley, still water, a hillside at dawn — and lit for the hour, from first light to night. The same scene comes to the widgets and to Today on Apple Watch. The prayer is set as a lamp, and its flame burns higher when you choose Rest here for a moment. Read is now a bookcase: a shelf for each kind of book, each spine as thick as its book is long. Tap one to open its cover, with the chapters you have read lit and Go to a verse beneath them. Searching, and the largest text sizes, keep the familiar list. Faster reading. Scrolling a long chapter such as Psalm 119 is much smoother, and Today no longer waits behind a spinner after your iPhone restarts. Also fixed: the request for a rating could appear after skimming past chapters rather than reading them, or in the middle of ticking off a plan; and a text size chosen just before leaving the app could be forgotten.

Plans are easier to follow. A reading opened from its plan or from Today now stays in that plan: the bar says where you are — "Reading 4 · chapter 1 of 3" — Next goes to the reading's next chapter rather than simply the next one in the Bible, and the foot of its last chapter offers Mark reading as read. Go straight to a verse. The book picker opens on the chapter you are reading, and "Go to a verse" beneath a book's chapters lets you choose the verse too. Room to change your mind. Mark as read and Rest here for a moment on Today can be undone for a few seconds, and so can any deletion in the Library. The Library shows how many bookmarks, highlights, notes and plans you have, and Edit deletes several at once. Each note is listed beneath the verse it was written beside. A psalm's heading — "A Psalm of David" — can now be copied and shared with a long press, and a share card for a psalm's first verse can carry the heading above it. Bookmark, Note, Copy and Share now sit in one row directly beneath the verse, rather than below the fold. Also fixed: opening a reading plan in Japanese, Korean or Chinese crashed the app; tapping the same highlight color twice could take a verse's phrase highlights with it; a long paste into Search held the screen for seconds; and reopening the app could leave a chapter's heading under the bar.

A new icon. The same single line — the open book whose top edge rises as a flame — is now drawn on the cream the app sets Scripture on, so the icon and the page agree. It is legible at the size a search result gives it, and lighter on a Home Screen. On iOS's dark appearance the lamp still glows in the dark. It now asks a little sooner whether you would rate it — still only when you have just finished a chapter or a reading, and still only once per version.

The app introduces itself on first launch: one screen, shown once, naming the four places to read and saying that the whole Bible is already on your device. Settings can open it again. Chapters of poetry open far faster. Psalm 119 took about a second to lay out and now takes a sixth of that; Psalm 78 and Ezra 2 are three to four times quicker. A bookmark, a search result, a plan's reading or Today's reading now opens on the tab you are already on, so Back returns you where you were rather than to a screen you had never visited. Movement is quieter throughout — a restrained page turn, lists and cards that settle rather than pop — and Reduce Motion is honoured by construction. Settings has an About section: the version, the support page, the privacy policy and the acknowledgements. Accessibility: VoiceOver can now reach a footnote and bring the bars back in Quiet, Bold Text and Increase Contrast reach the Scripture itself, and the largest text sizes no longer push a control off the screen. Two new rows in Settings: Rate Lamp & Line, and Share Lamp & Line with someone. Today offers the daily reminder once, after a couple of visits. Say no and it does not ask again. A verse shared as text now says where it came from, with a link to the App Store. Copy stays exactly as it was, and the switch that governs the mark on the card governs this line too. Settings now shows the Siri phrases and Shortcuts the app already answers to. Also fixed: Restore Purchases said nothing on a new Apple Account; a refund taken while the app was closed could leave Full unlocked; a Watch set up on its own never learned about Full; search forgot what you had typed; a note draft could be lost to a swipe; and about twenty-five phrases that were always English are now translated. On the App Store the app is now listed as Lamp & Line – Bible Reader. Nothing else about it has changed.
