Every eclipse from the place you choose: as it stood in the sky, the map of the Moon's shadow on Earth, and the video of its passage across the globe. Novilune is a visual almanac of solar eclipses, computed with great precision for any place on Earth — including the total eclipse of 2 August 2027 and the annular eclipse of 26 January 2028. At every new moon, the app draws the Sun and the Moon in the sky of the place you chose, and tells you what you would actually see there: a near miss, a partial eclipse, or a central one, total or annular. THE NEXT ECLIPSES • 6 February 2027 — annular across Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and southern Brazil, then the Atlantic and West Africa • 2 August 2027 — total from southern Spain across Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Egypt, with more than six minutes of totality; partial over most of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa • 26 January 2028 — annular from Ecuador, Peru and Brazil to the Guianas, ending at sunset over Portugal and Spain Type the name of your town and Novilune shows you what will happen there: the local time, the share of the Sun covered, the Sun's altitude above the horizon. A zoomable map shows the full extent of the path of totality and of the partial zone around it. A video animation, for every eclipse, follows the Moon's shadow as it sweeps across the Earth — on a globe or on a flat map, as you prefer. WHAT YOU GET • A calendar of 11,900 eclipses and more than 61,000 lunations, from 2000 BC to AD 3000 • Eclipse detection anywhere on Earth: partial, total, annular • An exact diagram of the Sun and the Moon at maximum, with the Moon's path across the sky • The local circumstances: magnitude, share of the Sun covered, altitude of the Sun, local and universal time • A five-millennium timeline and a fine slider, month by month • Two places compared side by side, each at its own local maximum • The eclipse map: where it can be seen on Earth, with the path of totality — an offline map built in, or a detailed zoomable map you can export • The eclipse animation: the shadow's course over the Earth, frame by frame, on a globe or a flat map; shareable as a GIF, with adjustable speed and quality • Image export of every eclipse view • Fully offline: the complete ephemeris is embedded, so the app works in the desert, at sea, or with no network at all • English, French and Spanish SERIOUS ASTRONOMY, PLAINLY SHOWN Novilune is not an artist's impression. Every conjunction is computed from the JPL DE441 ephemeris, allowing for the slow drift of the Earth's rotation (ΔT). Ancient eclipses appear where and when they happened, as far as current science can tell. Uncertainty is shown honestly: distant dates carry a visible margin rather than a false precision. That is what makes Novilune unusual well beyond the years to come: for the eclipse of Thales in 585 BC, said to have stopped a battle between Medes and Lydians; for the Assyrian eclipse of 763 BC, which anchors the whole chronology of the ancient Near East; or for any darkening of the Sun recorded in an old chronicle. THE COMPLETE APP, NO IN-APP PURCHASE Everything is there from the moment you install it: the five millennia, the comparison of two places, the map, the animation and its sharing. No subscription, no locked feature, no account to create. Novilune collects no personal data.

  • This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.

A total or annular eclipse now gives its duration: "2 min 14 s of totality", in place of the magnitude, which taught you nothing on a total eclipse. It is shown only if your location saw it, never when the central phase happened with the Sun already set. The figures for a partial eclipse no longer contradict themselves: as long as a sliver of Sun remains, they stay below 100%, to the nearest tenth.
