Switched from Windows to a Mac and keep reaching for shortcuts that don't exist? Switchover puts them back.
CUT AND PASTE FILES IN FINDER
Select files or folders, press Cmd+X, open the destination and press Cmd+V. Finder moves them. Nothing moves until you paste, and copying something else simply cancels the cut. Works in Finder and ForkLift.
CLIPBOARD HISTORY, LIKE WIN+V
Press Cmd+Shift+V in any app to see what you copied recently: text, images and files. Pick one and it is pasted where you were typing. Pin the things you reuse, filter by the app you copied from, and search even the text inside copied screenshots. Paste Stack queues several items and pastes them one per keypress, perfect for forms.
THE WINDOWS KEYS YOU MISS
- Home and End jump to the start and end of the line; Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End to the start and end of the document.
- Ctrl+Alt+Delete (or Ctrl+Shift+Esc) opens Activity Monitor, and the menu bar menu shows CPU, memory and the busiest apps at a glance.
- Ctrl+Option+Up fills the screen with the front window, Ctrl+Option+Down puts it back.
- Alt+F4 closes the window. Ctrl+W closes the tab.
- Show Desktop, Lock, a new Finder window and Mission Control on Ctrl+Option+D, L, E and Tab.
- Win+Shift+S becomes Ctrl+Option+Shift+S: snip a region straight to the clipboard. Print Screen on a PC keyboard copies the whole screen.
- Optional: Ctrl+arrows jump by word, Ctrl+Backspace deletes a word.
Every shortcut can be changed, and every feature has its own switch, so keep the habits you like and turn off the rest as you learn the Mac way.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Switchover has no network access and collects nothing. Your clipboard history stays on this computer, inside the app's own sandbox, and can be cleared or turned off at any time.
Every shortcut works as a plain hotkey. To act for you, Switchover sends one keystroke to the app in front or adjusts the key you pressed, which macOS only allows with the Accessibility permission. Switchover asks the first time a feature needs it, explains why, and uses it for nothing else.
