152 WORKS OF JAPANESE AND WORLD ART
Explore sculpture, ceramics, Buddhist art, metalwork and decorative objects, alongside paintings by artists including Van Gogh, Monet and Vermeer. Search by work or artist and save your favorites.
START EXPLORING OFFLINE
Every work includes an image in the app. Enjoy collection images, information and audio guides without a connection. When you want a closer look, use the download buttons for high-resolution painting images and 3D models.
LOOK FROM EVERY ANGLE
Rotate, zoom and move the view around 3D objects. Return to the curated viewpoint or switch the lighting to see details more clearly. Zoom and pan across paintings, then return to the full image.
ENGLISH AND JAPANESE AUDIO GUIDES
All 152 works include a guide in each language. Enjoy collection information and viewing notes in text and audio, and switch languages within the app. Audio guides use synthesized narration.
KEEP YOUR DISCOVERIES
Write notes for individual works. Notes include the date and time they were saved; notes and drafts stay on your device. Explore the collection through quizzes, too.
BRING ART INTO YOUR SPACE
On compatible iPhone and iPad devices, place 3D objects on floors or tables and paintings on walls with AR. Rotate them, adjust their size, listen to audio guides and save AR photos. Works are displayed at a size fitted to your space.
FOLLOW THE SOURCES
Each work includes museum credits, sources, licensing information and a link to its official collection record. The collection uses openly licensed material from the Smithsonian Institution, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
No account, ads or in-app purchases.
Three 3D object models are included in the app. Other 3D models and high-resolution painting images need an internet connection for their first download. Downloaded content can be revisited offline while it remains in the device cache.
AR requires a compatible device and camera permission. Saving an AR photo requests permission to add images to your photo library.
