Your child writes real Python. The hero moves. Not blocks. Not pseudo-code. Actual Python, running in an actual Python interpreter, on the iPad, with no internet connection. Starlight Magic Academy is a pixel-art adventure with a code editor beside it. Type move_east(3) and the little hero walks three tiles east. Wrap it in a for loop and they walk further. By chapter fifteen your child is reading sensors, branching on what they find, calling functions they wrote themselves, and catching exceptions — because the caves ahead cannot be beaten any other way. 93 LEVELS, 15 CHAPTERS From a first line of code to lists, dictionaries, functions, while loops, try/except and f-strings. Every chapter ends with a quiz, and the difficulty ladder was built one level at a time, for one nine-year-old, and then rebuilt when he got bored. THE PUZZLES CANNOT BE FAKED Levels are graded by what happens in the world, never by what the code looks like. There is no single right answer to match. Many levels run your one program against several hidden variations of the map — so a memorised sequence of moves clears the first and fails the second, and the only thing that clears all of them is actually asking the world a question and branching on the answer. ERRORS THAT MAKE SENSE "NameError: name 'move_est' is not defined" means nothing to a child. This app catches it and says: there is no spell called move_est — did you mean move_east? Indentation, missing colons, unclosed brackets, infinite loops: each one gets a plain explanation and a concrete next step, in the child's language. HINTS THAT COST SOMETHING Three tiers, escalating. The third tier shows the answer — and caps that level at one star. Peeking is allowed, and it is never free. BUILT FOR THE iPAD KEYBOARD A symbol row puts the characters Python needs — colon, parentheses, underscore, quotes — one tap away instead of two keyboard planes deep. Full-width punctuation from a Chinese keyboard is converted before it ever reaches Python. The Run button and the error message follow the keyboard up instead of hiding behind it. ENGLISH AND CHINESE Every word of the interface and all 93 levels are written in both. One button switches everything, mid-level, without losing your place. FOR PARENTS Every level carries a note explaining what it teaches, what usually goes wrong, and a question to ask afterwards. If your child already knows loops, a parent gate lets you set the starting level anywhere without faking the stars. NO ACCOUNT. NO ADS. NO PURCHASES. NO NETWORK. Nothing is collected, because nothing is sent. Progress lives on the device. The app works on a plane, in a car, and in a house with the router off. Made by a father for his son, and then finished properly.
