Rested is the small reminder to look away — and, unlike a timer, it knows how to stay out of the way. Every twenty minutes, or whatever interval suits you, the screen turns to a quiet night sky with a countdown on it. Twenty seconds later you carry on. That is the whole idea: the 20-20-20 rule, kept without you having to remember it. ON ITS OWN Rested runs perfectly well as a phone app. Set how often a break comes and how long it lasts, and it keeps to that schedule. WITH YOUR MAC If you also have Rested for Mac, pair the two and a break that starts on the Mac starts here as well — on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, counting down, so a phone picked up mid-break says the same thing the Mac does. While the Mac is running Rested it decides the breaks and the phone stands down; when the Mac is asleep or shut, the phone carries on alone. QUIET BY DESIGN No account. No sign-up. Nothing to read. Pairing is six digits and can be undone from either side, and it carries a break and nothing else: no names, no email address, no history of what you were doing.
