Food, people, or scenery: guide lines and short hints show where to move the phone and how to tilt it. Line it up and shoot, or pick a layout and hand it to a friend.
The things that get in the way of a good photo are usually small.
Where does the cup go?
Should the phone be a little higher?
Is the person too close to the edge?
Is the horizon straight?
Open the camera and the viewfinder shows you where things should sit, along with a hint on what to adjust. Move the phone, change the angle, and shoot once it lines up.
On a table, the guides follow your angle, top-down or tilted, and show where the cup, the plate, and the food should go.
For scenery, the screen helps you level the horizon and suggests where to place it in the frame.
For people, it shows where the person should stand for a full-body, half-body, or close-up shot.
Only one hint shows at a time, so the viewfinder stays clear.
Want a different look? Pick another layout from the strip. Each one comes with a sample photo and a short note.
Handing the phone to a friend? Choose the layout first, then ask them to match the lines on the screen. Even someone who has never thought about photography can get close to the shot you had in mind.
Before you shoot, try a different tone: milky white, warm wood, blue-green, a dark look, or film grain.
After the shot, adjust the tone again, plus exposure, contrast, saturation, and warmth. The original is kept; edits are saved as a new photo.
Image recognition runs on your phone. No account is needed, and neither the viewfinder nor your photos are sent to a server.
On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, you also get a one-line comment on the composition after each shot. Other iPhones keep every shooting, framing, and color feature.

Eight new framing guides, picked from the guide strip under the viewfinder:
- Golden Spiral, Spiral Portrait and Tabletop Spiral: put the subject in the small circle where the spiral ends, and line everything else up along the curve.
- Golden Point: the subject sits on a golden-ratio point, a little closer to the centre than the thirds.
- Leading Lines: roads, rivers and railings lead the eye to the subject.
- Symmetry: buildings, corridors and reflections, with the subject in the middle.
- Frame in Frame: use a doorway, window, bridge arch or branches as a frame around the subject.
- Horizon Portrait: the horizon crosses at waist height.
Golden spiral:
- "How to use the golden spiral" now sits at the top of Home. Food examples cover a close-up, a full table and a table with its surroundings; people examples cover close, medium and far shots. There are also examples that use an arch as a frame, or a hand, a gaze or a path to lead the eye to the subject. Every sample photo has the spiral drawn on it, with what goes on the curve and what goes in the focus.
- Each row has a "Shoot with ..." button that opens the camera with that guide, facing the same way as the sample.
- The spiral now keeps the true golden ratio instead of stretching with the screen, and the grid switches to golden-ratio lines when you apply it.
- With a spiral applied, "Flip Left/Right" and "Flip Up/Down" let you put the big curve on any side.
