John 3:16 at 3:16. Six thousand public-domain paintings behind a clock that reads scripture back to you. Every translation free, always.
Shema: Bible Clock turns your Apple TV into a clock that reads scripture back to you. Every minute shows a verse whose chapter and verse match the time — John 3:16 at 3:16, Philippians 4:13 at 4:13 — over a painting from the public domain.
THE HOUR, IN SCRIPTURE
The chapter is the hour and the verse is the minute. Each minute's verse comes from a curated list, so the best-known pairings return often and other days bring a different one. At the top of the hour: a short reflection from a Christian writer of the past, or a fact about the Bible.
THE COLLECTION
More than six thousand paintings from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and Wikimedia Commons — all public domain — and thirty-two Shema Originals painted for this app. Portraits are matted like a museum wall; landscapes fill the screen.
MADE FOR THE WALL
Ten typefaces. Seven clock positions. Five sizes each for the clock, the verse and the date. The weather and the date can ride with the clock or take a corner of their own. Christ's words in red, if you like. Living gradients and drawn motion scenes for when you want no painting at all. Chimes on the hour and quiet ambient sound, both optional.
THE BIBLE IS FREE
Thirty-five translations, including the King James Version, with the interface in twenty-three languages. Every translation is free and stays free — nothing in scripture is sold. The clock, the Biblical Art collection of more than a thousand paintings, every layout and typeface, favourites and the weather are free as well.
SHEMA+
Shema+ opens the rest of the gallery: the wider public-domain collection of nearly six thousand more paintings, a room for each of more than a hundred painters, the Shema Originals, and your own photographs from an iCloud Shared Album. Buy it once and keep it, or subscribe yearly with a free week to start.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no sign-up, no analytics. The only thing that leaves your Apple TV is a weather request, and only if you turn the weather on.
