BEAN PICK
Make shorts from long video
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
BEAN PICK turns a long video into short highlight clips you can post.
It listens to the whole thing, writes out what was said, and picks the parts that stand on their own. You get a list of candidates with a title for each, and you keep the ones you like.
Subtitles come along with the clip. Fonts, colours, position and how many lines at a time are all yours to set, and there are ready made looks if you would rather not fiddle.
The canvas can be vertical, square or wide, and each clip keeps its own setting.
In the Music player tab, add a song with its album cover and lyrics and it becomes a video styled like a music player. Type the title and artist and they appear in the template you pick. Choose from 100 templates and star your favourites. You can also retouch each person on screen: smoother skin, face shape, eyes, nose and mouth, colour, makeup and body.
The app is split into three panes, List, Canvas and Edit, and you switch between them with the tabs at the bottom. A black status bar above the canvas always shows the playhead position, the length and which highlight you are on. On iPad the three panes sit side by side. Choose a Light, Dark or Space Gray theme and an accent colour. Touch and hold a row in the list for options such as Edit as is and Polish subtitles.
Save the finished clip straight to your photo library or keep it in Files.

- The iPhone screen is now a single screen. From the top: the preview, the play row, the edit tools, the timeline, the Elements · Subtitles · Canvas tabs with their panel, and the action bar (Undo · Redo, Pick, Templates, Export). The source and highlight list opens from the list button at the top left as a sheet, and Open video, projects, Apply to all, Settings and How to use are in ⋯ at the top right. ⋯ › How to use lists where everything moved.
- The iPad screen follows the new design. The list button at the top left shows and hides the list, and the top bar has Undo · Redo, Pick, File, Templates, Export and Settings. The ⋯ at the right of the play row has Preview volume, Zoom to 100% and Add subtitle at playhead.
- List rows and element rows have the new design. The lock, T and eye on element rows and the buttons on list rows are now easy to tap.
- Small buttons across the app (edit tools, top tabs, select boxes and sliders in the element panel, the template sheet, the export picker, the full screen button) are now finger-sized.
- Preview volume is in the ⋯ of the edit tools row (the play row on iPad).
- Undo and Redo are now arrow icons instead of words, and the edit tools (Select, Cut, Eraser) are drawn as icons.
- All buttons in the play row are now the same size.
- Starting a scroll on an element row, a subtitle row or a colour swatch no longer selects that row or toggles its eye or colour. Only a tap selects.
- Fixed a crash when opening the Templates, Settings or text edit sheet.
- Fixed the top bar sitting under the status bar right after launch.
- Switching between Highlights and Music player keeps the highlight you were on.
- On small iPhones the action bar fits on one row, so the preview and panel get more room.
- On small screens or with larger text, Restore purchase, Terms of Use and Privacy Policy in the purchase sheet can always be scrolled into reach.
- Fixed 'Remake' showing the same word as 'Redo' in several languages, and parts of built-in template names showing in Korean.

Editing with your fingers on iPhone and iPad is much easier now.
- More room on screen. The status line that was always showing is gone, and finished jobs show a short message at the bottom instead.
- New Undo and Redo buttons. After deleting something, you can undo it straight from the message.
- Edit opens as a panel from the bottom that doesn't cover the video, and you can drag its handle to resize it. iPad in portrait gets a wider view too.
- Brushing the screen no longer creates or moves cuts and subtitles. Only the item you tapped to select can be dragged or stretched.
- Drag an empty area to move along the timeline, and pinch to zoom. Time, length and volume show above your finger while dragging.
- New eraser tool: tap a cut or blackout to remove it, or drag to remove a whole range.
- Selecting a subtitle, element or sound shows Edit, Split and Delete buttons. You can add a subtitle or a sound file at the playhead.
- Canvas elements move only after you tap to select them, and two fingers resize the selected element.
- Bigger play buttons, and press and hold rewind to jump to the start.
- The keyboard no longer covers what you're typing, number fields show a number pad, and menu rows are bigger.
- When an export finishes, share it to other apps straight from the message, and send videos or recordings to BEAN PICK from other apps with Share.
- The screen stays on during long jobs such as exporting and transcribing.
- Fixed exports to a Files folder not saving, and fixed only the last source being saved when exporting several at once.
- Fixed favourites getting tapped while scrolling the template list.

The whole app has a new design. The top row holds the Highlights and Music player tabs and Settings, and the row below holds File, Pick, Export and Templates. Use the tab bar at the bottom to switch between List, Canvas and Edit. A black status bar at the top of the Canvas view always shows the playhead position, length, which highlight you are on and the aspect ratio. On iPad, the list, the canvas and the Edit panel sit side by side.
There is a new Music player tab. Add a song with its album cover and lyrics, and it becomes a video styled like a music player. Choose from 100 templates and star your favourites. Each tab has its own template list, and Export results exports what you have made.
Touch and hold a source in the list and choose Edit as is to edit the whole video right away. Touch and hold a highlight for options such as Polish subtitles, Regenerate subtitles and Export.
Face retouching is here. The app finds the faces in your video, and you can retouch each person separately: smoother skin, face shape, eyes, nose and mouth, colour and makeup. Tap a face on screen to pick that person, and tap again to let go. The first time, the app downloads the retouch model (about 190 MB). The Body tab smooths the skin on the body or matches it to the face, softens neck lines, straightens the shoulders, slims the neck and upper shoulders, or makes the body a little smaller.
Videos shot upright no longer come out lying on their side when exported. Finished videos can be saved straight to your photo library or kept in Files.
Lyrics you type in now become one subtitle per line, and a blank line marks a new verse. The template list can show only the aspect ratios you want. When you resize a video or element on the canvas, its edge snaps to the canvas border as it gets close.
Space Gray is now available as a screen theme in Settings, and you can pick from seven accent colours. Your previous theme and accent carry over. Help in Settings is now behind the How to use button at the bottom left.
Scrolling with your finger no longer changes the sliders you pass over, old colours no longer stay after a theme change, and values in number fields are no longer cut off. Empty rows are gone, and tab and button names no longer get cut off in languages with longer words or at large text sizes.
1.0.4 Sep 30
Importing videos on iPhone has been reworked. When you pick a video from your photo library, a progress indicator now appears in the middle of the screen while it comes in, so you can see how far a long video has got. You can also pick videos from any folder in the Files app.
Projects now work properly on iPhone. Saved projects appear in a list inside the app, where you can open, rename, duplicate and delete them. Imported videos are kept inside the app, so your projects still open after an app update, and deleting a project also clears the videos only it was using. In Settings you can choose whether the app reopens your last project or starts a new one when it launches.
Cancelling the subtitle model download once no longer leaves Make shorts unresponsive. A subtitle model chosen in Settings now takes effect right away; if it is not downloaded yet, you are asked right away whether to download it and can follow the progress. If the chosen model is missing but you already have another one, you are asked whether to use that one instead.
Videos shot vertically on a phone no longer open as landscape with the wrong aspect ratio, or play back lying on their side and squashed. We also fixed subtitles missing the second half of some audio files, and the source video title overlapping the channel name in the default layout. The safe area is now a box in the middle of the screen with the same shape as the frame.
Setting and button names are no longer cut off when you use English or other languages, and devices set to English no longer show parts of the app in Korean on first launch. On iPad, the top of the screen no longer slides under the status bar when a window opens.
When no part of a video is worth a short, the whole video is now added as one short instead of failing, so very short videos and videos without speech can be edited right away. You can switch back to reporting it as a failure in the General tab of Settings.
In full screen, titles and subtitles no longer appear upside down, and the controls at the bottom no longer run off the screen. Once the controls hide, tap the screen to bring them back; Close is at the top right. The Save button in Settings has moved to the top right, and the long empty space below the settings is gone.
1.0.3 Sep 27
Video elements now have a Colour group, right below Move Y. Match the look to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or CapCut, load a LUT or save your grade as one. The grade shows in the preview and in the exported video.
Auto cut now has Tidy up. Tidy retakes finds lines you said more than once and keeps only the cleanest take. Remove fillers takes out um and uh from both the sound and the subtitles. Undo retakes and Undo fillers put things back.
1.0.2 Sep 26
Turning a landscape video into a vertical one throws away more than half the width. Pin the crop to the centre and the person walks out of frame. Tap Follow speaker in the video panel and the crop follows them instead. With more than one person on screen it follows whoever is speaking.
A vertical video gets covered at the top, the bottom and the right once it is posted. Turn on Safe area in the canvas settings to see exactly what gets hidden, before you post.
Fixed truncated labels and a stray empty row in the side panel.
