An ad for a mattress. A pop-up begging for your email. A video that chases you down the page. Then nine paragraphs about somebody's grandmother's porch before one ingredient shows up. I got sick of it, so I built the app I wanted on my own counter.
WHAT'S COOKING
Garlicky cream sauce. Brownies with a crackly top. Focaccia that's gone before it cools. All 99 recipes from my printed cookbook, with the amounts, the heat, and what the food should look like when it's right.
Then I keep going. 30 to 40 new recipes every month, plus holiday recipes and whole specialty cookbooks as I finish them. The first one is nothing but cookies. One cookie was never the plan.
ONE MEMBERSHIP, THE WHOLE KITCHEN
Every recipe. Every new recipe. Cook mode, the shopping list, the dinner planner, Fridge Raid and the community. No tiers, no add-ons, nothing held back for people who pay extra.
COOK MODE
One step at a time, and the screen stays awake while your hands are covered in flour. A step says fifteen to twenty minutes? One tap and it's a timer named after that step. Go answer a text. Switch apps. The timer doesn't care, it keeps running.
FRIDGE RAID
Tell it what's in your fridge and how much time you've got. It shows you what you can cook tonight and puts whatever's missing on the shopping list. Standing there with the door open is not a plan.
SHOPPING LIST
Pick the ingredients you need from a recipe and get a clean list grouped by aisle, so you're not hiking back to dairy three times. Add your own items. Send it to Apple Reminders, or share it with whoever lost the coin toss.
DINNER PLANNER
Wednesday gets thirty minutes. Sunday gets the whole afternoon. Set how much cooking time each day has, then give your dinners a slot in the week.
THE COOKING ACADEMY
30 lessons on why food works and why it fails. Why the sauce broke. Why the cookies went flat. They're free to read, no membership needed. Members get the layer underneath: the physics, the hints, and the recipes that lean on each lesson.
BAD SIGNAL, GOOD DINNER
The recipe you're cooking stays on your iPhone or iPad for the day. Your wifi doesn't get a vote.

Joe's Test Kitchen is a membership, monthly or annual. The price is on the join screen before you pay anything. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. Membership renews automatically at the price shown until you cancel. Cancel any time in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions, and you keep access to the end of the period you paid for.

My notes now read the way the book prints them: the headings, the bold bits, the order of work. Long timers say 1 hr 10 min instead of making you do math. Academy search finds what you meant, accents and all. And the Support link tells me which phone you're on, so I can skip the twenty questions and get to fixing dinner.
