Take a picture of your meal, or tell what you ate, the way you'd tell a friend: "one burger, chips and a drink". It works out what that means, finds each food, and logs the lot.
Most food diaries make you the database operator - search, scroll, pick, weigh, repeat, four times a meal. This one reads a sentence or a photo and does that part for you.
WHAT IT DOES
• Photograph a plate. Every food on it is named separately, with a portion estimate you can correct.
• Say or type a meal in plain words. Several meals at once is fine: "porridge at 8, chicken rice for lunch".
• Scan a barcode for exact label numbers, straight from the packet.
• Search a food database of thousands of foods when you'd rather pick it yourself.
REAL NUMBERS, NOT GUESSES
Nutrition comes from the USDA food database and, for packaged products, from Open Food Facts - not invented by an AI. Where something genuinely isn't in either, the app says so and labels the figure an estimate rather than quietly making one up.
You get calories and the three macros, plus fibre, sugars, salt, and the vitamins and minerals most diaries leave out. The day's report shows where you are against reference amounts worked out from your own height, weight, age and activity.
IT REMEMBERS WHAT YOU EAT
Log a coffee once and it's a one-tap repeat forever after — no AI, no waiting, nothing counted against your allowance. The more you log, the less typing you do.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No account. No sign-up. No email address.
• It syncs through your own iCloud, so it's on your other devices and survives a new phone. We never see it.
• Reading what you've logged is free forever, subscription or not.
• Meal photos aren't uploaded to iCloud or kept on our server. To name the food, a smaller copy goes to a third-party AI service, and only after you've said yes.
• Apple Health, if you want it: meals and water written out, weight and activity read in.
FREE FOR SEVEN DAYS
Everything is included for a week - photos, descriptions, barcodes, search, the full report. After that, logging needs a subscription.
Meal Metrics is a calorie and nutrient counter, not a medical device. The figures are reference values for a population, not advice about you. It doesn't score your food, set you goals, or tell you what to eat.
