Softcap: Claude & Codex Usage
AI usage limits in menu bar
Only for Mac
Free
Mac
Session and weekly limits for every Claude Code and Codex account you have, in the menu bar — with a warning well before you run out.
Softcap shows how much of your Claude Code and OpenAI Codex subscriptions you have left, in the menu bar, before you run out in the middle of something.
Every subscription limit, on one screen. Softcap reads the five-hour session window and the weekly window for each account you add, and keeps both in front of you: a countdown in the menu bar, a window one click away, widgets on the desktop.
SEVERAL ACCOUNTS AT ONCE
Claude and Codex accounts side by side, as many as you have. You sign in through your own browser, so Softcap never asks for a password and never signs your command line tools out. Hide the accounts you are not watching, and drag the rest into the order you want.
IT TELLS YOU BEFORE YOU HIT IT
Notifications at 80% and 95% out of the box, or whichever levels you set instead — once per crossing, not once per reading. Quiet hours keep the night silent, and nothing is delivered late to make up for it.
A TIMER IN THE MENU BAR
Whichever limit is closest to running out, and how long until it frees up, without clicking anything. The strip can carry the countdown, the percentage, or only the icon.
WIDGETS
All four sizes, drawn from the same account row the window uses, so the two cannot drift apart.
USAGE HISTORY
Weekly-limit charts over the last week or the last month, kept on your Mac and pruned after 35 days.
YOUR TOKENS STAY PUT
Credentials stay in the keychain, never copied into preferences or logs. Checking usage sends no prompts and spends none of your allowance: one request per account per reading, five minutes apart in the background and once a minute while the window is open.
TEN LANGUAGES
Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish — including Arabic laid out right to left. Switching takes effect immediately, with no restart, and VoiceOver reads the whole app.
Free, and open source.

Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
• A widget now says when macOS has not let Softcap open the folder it reads from, instead of showing the empty week it shows when there is genuinely nothing to report.
• A row in the minimal window is a button: click the period and the row shows the other one, until the window closes.
• An account list macOS has locked can be opened again, rather than being refused for good.
• The dates on the statistics chart and the settings window's own title now follow the language chosen in Softcap, not the one the Mac is set to.
