Eleven tracks from Python to building a CPU from NAND gates, in short lessons where the code really runs. Everything is open for free while Alguni is new.
Alguni teaches children of about 8 to 15 to code, and to understand the computer underneath the code, in short lessons where everything really runs.
Eleven tracks, 804 lessons:
• Python — printing, loops, lists, functions, files, classes, all the way to recursion, sorting and dynamic programming. Real CPython runs on the phone.
• JavaScript — variables, arrays, objects, functions, classes, promises and async.
• C — types with real sizes, arrays, pointers, structs, malloc and free. Where C has undefined behaviour, Alguni stops and explains instead of printing junk.
• C++ — streams, string, vector, classes, constructors, inheritance and virtual functions.
• Chips — build a computer from a single Nand gate: logic gates, adders, an ALU, flip-flops, registers and a CPU. No programming language needed.
• Git — commit, branch, merge, fix a conflict, push and pull, typed into a real terminal. The wording matches real git, so nothing has to be unlearned later.
• Linux — ls, cd, pipes, wildcards, grep, permissions, processes and a first shell script, on a safe machine where nothing can break.
• Maths — exponents, fractions, equations, sequences, counting, probability, geometry and proof, in the order a problem-solving course teaches them. Answers are marked by value: 1/2, 0.5 and 2/4 all count.
• AI — build nearest neighbours, decision trees, gradient descent, a neural network and Q-learning by hand. No libraries, no shortcuts.
• Robotics — drive a simulated robot with Python. Its sensors and wheels obey real geometry.
• Contest — competitive programming for beginners, from "a second is not very long" to graphs and dynamic programming.
HOW IT WORKS
Lessons are a few minutes long, like a language app: a card explains one idea, then you predict what code prints, fix a bug, put lines in order, or write a program yourself and run it. Hearts, streaks, XP and a robot mascot called Bit keep it a game. A wrong answer costs a heart and a gentle "boop", never a buzzer.
HONEST BY CONSTRUCTION
Every lesson is checked against the real thing before it ships: C and C++ against gcc, Git against the real git binary, Linux against real bash, maths against a computer algebra system. What a lesson says code prints is what the code prints.
PRIVACY, BUILT FOR FAMILIES
A child signs in with a username and a password only. The one piece of personal data stored is a grown-up's email address, used for nothing but password recovery. No ads, no tracking, no chat, no messaging between users, no links out of the app except the privacy page. What the app records about learning is which lesson was played and whether an answer was right, never the code or the answers a child typed. An account can be deleted from inside the app.
WORKS OFFLINE
After signing in, every lesson plays with no connection. The network is only needed to sign in and to keep progress in step across devices.
WHAT IT COSTS
Nothing, right now. Every unit of every track is open while Alguni is new. If that ever changes it will be said plainly first, and a lesson a child has finished will never be taken back.
