Earthquake Monitor Map
Recent quakes — map & list
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Recent earthquakes worldwide, from the public USGS feeds, on a map you can actually read. An independent app. Not an early-warning service.
Earthquake Monitor Map is an independent app for browsing recent earthquake activity around the world. It maps events reported by the public data feeds of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on an interactive map and a clean, chronological list.
IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ
This app is not an earthquake early-warning system and not a real-time emergency alert service. It must not be relied on for safety decisions. Everything it shows is an event that has already happened and has already been recorded and published by the source feed.
This app is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representative of the USGS or any government entity.
WHAT IT DOES
Global activity map
See recent worldwide earthquakes on an interactive map, or as a list ordered by time. Nearby events gather into a group as you zoom out, and a group is ringed with the severity of the most serious event inside it, so nothing important hides behind a count.
Three ways to look
Browse the whole world, centre on where you are, or save a watch area anywhere on the map and follow just that.
Filtering that sticks
Choose a magnitude threshold and a timeframe — the past hour, day, week or month — and the app remembers it.
Event detail
Tap any event for its magnitude, depth, coordinates, significance and last-updated time, then open the official USGS report for the full geological breakdown. Share any event straight from the app.
Optional notifications
Turn notifications on and the app checks the USGS feed when iOS next gives it time in the background, then tells you about newly published events inside your watch area. iOS decides when those background checks happen, so this is a convenience, not a guaranteed or timely alert. The matching is done on your device.
Built for iPhone and iPad
A results sheet you can drag on iPhone, a side-by-side map and list on iPad, full VoiceOver labelling, Dynamic Type and dark mode.
PRIVACY
No accounts. No ads. No analytics or tracking SDKs. We run no server that receives anything from the app.
Location is optional. If you use "Near me", the app asks iOS for kilometre-level accuracy while the app is open, and your coordinates are used on your device to centre the map and rank events by distance. They are never sent to a server we operate.
Your watch area and your settings stay on your device.
Maps are drawn with Apple's MapKit.
