The number on each row and column counts main stars, not every star in that line. In a constellation, the main star is the one at the top-left.
After you connect them, the main star stays the same size. The others shrink.
You work from the numbers. It feels like a logic puzzle. It is not Sudoku, and the shape is not given in advance.
