Draw a pixel font on iPhone or iPad and export real TTF, OTF and WOFF files - with kerning, a true italic and variable axes. Sort Type Lab turns pixel drawings into real font files. Draw each glyph on a grid, with your finger or Apple Pencil, then space it, kern it and export a finished font: TrueType, OpenType or WOFF for the web. Everything happens on your iPhone or iPad. Exported files go to Files, AirDrop or Mail and install like any other font on your computer. iOS does not let apps register fonts system-wide, so Sort Type Lab brings its own ways to look at your work: a specimen view and a live web preview you can share. DRAW • A grid of any size, with columns and rows of different widths • Square, rounded and circular pixels, corner shapes, or your own custom blocks • Trace a reference image placed behind the grid • Undo, redo and a version history for every font REFINE • Side bearings per glyph and GPOS kerning • A true italic as its own style-linked face • Specimen view and live web preview EXPORT • TrueType (.ttf), OpenType (.otf) and WOFF for the web • Variable fonts with up to four axes: weight, width, slant and outline • Colour fonts (COLR/CPAL), or one file per colour for apps that read no colour fonts • Sprite atlas (.fnt + .png) in the BMFont layout that common game engines read • Bitmap fonts (.bdf) for terminals and retro tooling SYNC • iCloud keeps your library in step across your devices and can be switched off. Without iCloud the app works fully; the library then stays on the device. • Projects are plain JSON files you can copy, back up and open in any editor. FREE AND PRO The free version holds one font and exports complete, installable files marked as a trial. Sort Type Lab Pro is a one-time purchase — no subscription, no account — that lifts the limit, removes the trial mark and adds variable fonts, colour fonts, the sprite atlas and BDF export. It stays with your Apple Account, on every device you own. For indie games, retro branding, or letters of your own.
