New in 2.0: the animatic. Figures walk, sit and ride, the camera moves with them, and the action is cut into boards. Pose, frame and cut with no drawing needed. StoryB is a storyboarding tool for everyone — those who draw and those who don't. Build the location — walls, doors, windows, stairs, roads. Add a figure to the scene, pick a pose or set it by hand. Put the camera on its mark, with real focal lengths. Move your characters and the camera without drawing the location again for every shot. Each frame lands on the timeline in the right order, with its duration and its lines. Put your frames together and export them as a video, or as a clear PDF to work from on set. THE SHOT • Easy posing of mannequins, with fine control over individual bones. • A camera with a real focal length and a real aspect ratio. • Adjustable lights. • Depth of field (Pro): a real aperture and focus — click a figure and the focus stays on it, while the background blurs the way a real lens would. • A large library of licensed 3D models, plus importing your own. BUILD MODE (StoryB Pro) Building a location has never been this easy. Just draw the walls, mark where the windows and doors go, and put in the stairs. Shooting outdoors? We've added roads you can draw in a couple of clicks :) THE STORYBOARD • A timeline with each board's duration, board and scene numbers, dialogue, action and notes. • Draw over any frame with a marker. • Open any frame in Photoshop, and what you save there comes back into StoryB. • Storyboarder projects are supported. Just bring your project over into a modern app. EXPORT • PDF: the printed storyboard in the familiar layouts, plus a shot list and a contact sheet (Pro) • Video editor: each frame lasts as long as the timeline says, with dialogue, shot numbers and timecode (if you need them) • Export each frame as a separate image, or copy it to the clipboard. • The shot list as a spreadsheet, and the whole storyboard as an editing sequence for Final Cut and Premiere (Pro) WHAT COSTS MONEY StoryB Pro is a monthly subscription, or a one-time purchase that is yours for good. It includes: building sets, depth of field, the Standard 3D look, the perspective guide and the light table, the shot list and the contact sheet, the script printed pre-lined with your boards, handing the storyboard to other departments as data (a CSV shot list and an editing sequence), and export in 4K and ProRes. Everything else is free, including the storyboard PDF itself. Every user gets a 14-day StoryB Pro gift period. When it is over, everything you’ve already built stays in your projects. NEW IN VERSION 2.0 >> THE ANIMATIC (Pro, beta) • Your scene can move now. Switch on Animatic in the shot generator, draw paths on the plan, and figures walk, run, crouch and jump along them. The animations are Unreal Engine's, on StoryB's own mannequins. • Figures sit on chairs, sofas and beds, get into cars and out again, ride bicycles and motorcycles, and travel on buses. • Cameras move too, keyed on a timeline the way After Effects keys them: where the camera stands, pan and tilt, roll, lens and focus, each with its own easing. A camera can follow a figure, look at a point of its own, or ride on a car or a figure, steadied if you like. • Pose on top of the movement: turn a head or raise an arm with keys on a figure's body parts while it walks. • Cut the action into boards. Cut to picks the camera at the playhead, Add Snapshot gives a shot one more board. Save Animatic lays every board into the storyboard, each with its own picture and length. • The animatic plays as a film in the main window's timeline and goes into the video export frame by frame. • Cars drive nose first on their own turning circle, their wheels roll and steer, and doors, hoods and trunks open. SHOT GENERATOR • It opens inside the document window, in place of the boards, and much faster. • Free View: fly round the scene to pose it without moving the shot's camera. • What a film is shot on: pick a camera body and its recording mode, or type a sensor size, with an anamorphic squeeze. A 35 mm lens now frames what a 35 frames on that sensor. • Characters: save a figure's body, build and clothes under a name and put it on any figure. Change the character, and every board with it follows. • Locations: + Add new location names the set you built, and any board can stand in it. A change to a location goes to every board it is on, or becomes a new location. Furniture and trees belong to the location. • X-Ray (⌥Z): see through a thing to pose a figure inside a bus. • A figure dropped onto a vehicle is asked where it sits. A card from the model library lands on whatever is under the pointer. • Height and body shape are set in fields you type into or drag across. • The head turns further and the arms reach higher. • ⌘D duplicates a camera. • The floor and the sky go on for ever. MODEL LIBRARY • Two buses, with doors that open and a seat for every passenger. • Every car's doors open. • A bull that walks. TIMELINE • Timeline mode is for the film. The drawing tools step aside, the tracks get the room, and drawings stay on the still boards, never over an animatic's motion. • ← and → move the playhead one frame. \ fits the whole film in (Zoom to Sequence), and \ again goes back. • Trimming or moving sound no longer changes the zoom. • The boards of one continuous shot are one clip, with its playback speed written on it. • Past the last board the picture is empty. • The switch between Boards and Timeline is animated. EXPORT • File ▸ Export holds every way out. New: Comic Book (CBZ), and OpenTimelineIO (.otio, Pro) for Resolve and Premiere. MORE • A project opens on the board you left it on. • ⌘S shows Saved. • Saving an animatic shows how far it has got. • Scene Not Saved offers Save to Board. CHANGES • The camera "Storyboarder (35 mm)" is now called "StoryB (classic)". • The plan's pointer tool is on Q. FIXES • A two-digit shot label no longer pushes the board's panel out of place.
