Tyto takes a screenshot the instant you press the shortcut, then gets out of your way.
Press ⌘⇧9 and the screen freezes right away – so a menu, a tooltip, an animation stays exactly where it was while you pick what to keep. Drag a region, or click a window to grab
just that one.
Mark it up without leaving the capture: arrows, boxes, ellipses, lines, text, a blur for anything private, numbered badges when you are writing steps. Pick a colour and a thickness,
undo as much as you like, move or delete anything you drew.
Press Return and it is on your clipboard – paste it into Slack, a doc, a ticket, an email. ⌘S saves a PNG instead.

Tyto is sandboxed, makes no network connections and collects no data. Your captures never leave your Mac – and the source is on GitHub, so you can check that rather than take my word for it.
Named after the barn owl, Tyto alba – the one that hunts in silence. It also sounds like "отуто", Ukrainian for "right here", which is more or less what you are saying when you drag a box around something.

The owl's own menu can be the screenshot: press the shortcut while the menu is open and the frame is taken with the menu in it. Before, the shortcut did nothing until the menu closed.
Recent Captures: a very wide capture no longer stretches the menu with its thumbnail.
The shortcut recorder shows the plain key, so ⇧⌘9 reads as ⇧⌘9.
