You are small, unarmed and somewhere you should not be. The way out runs past the guards.
Every guard has a pale wedge drawn on the floor. That is what he sees. It stops at walls, it sweeps as he turns, and staying out of it is the whole game. Walk and you make no sound. Run and a ring shows how far the noise carried.
Tall grass hides you while a guard looks straight at it. When he is right on top of you grass alone is not enough, so you hold still and hold your breath. The ring around the button is your lungs. Let it empty and you gasp out loud.
Twenty four hand made levels, each one a maze with dead ends, watched doors and a rule you have not met yet. Rules arrive one at a time. Running through grass bends it, and bent grass is a trail a guard can follow. A body left on the floor gets found, so you drag it into the grass. Rain swallows every sound, yours and theirs.
Four kinds of enemy. The guard, with his cone. The lantern, whose light reaches further and lights the grass around him, so hiding near it does nothing. The messenger, who never chases you and runs for the nearest bell instead. The hound, which hunts by smell and does not care about grass, cloaks or held breath.
Six tools, opened as the levels go by. A stone that pulls a man off his post. A cloak for six seconds where nothing can see you. Smoke that hides you while you move. Boots that quiet your feet. A dart that drops a man in a doorway from across the room. A snare you leave on the floor and walk away from. Your only force is a takedown from behind, and he falls where he stood.
Three stars a level. One for reaching the exit, one for reaching it without an alarm, one for beating the clock. Some levels hide a pouch away from the straight way through, and it is yours only if you reach the exit carrying it. One breath mode gives you a single lungful for the whole level and pays double.
Seven coats to wear. Colours only. A white coat hides in the grass exactly as well as a black one.
No weapons. No ads. No internet needed. Coins come from stars. The store sells coin packs, tool packs, coats and a few one time unlocks, and none of it is random.
