Strange Shogi is an online shogi (Japanese chess) game where a few pieces are swapped for "strange pieces" with special abilities at the start of every game. No sign-up. Five minutes a game.
■ Not a game of luck
Both players get the same strange pieces in the same places.
Neither side gets an advantage.
What matters is how well you use a piece you've never met.
■ Play real people online
We find an opponent near your strength automatically.
If nobody's around, a bot steps in right away,
so you can play any time, even late at night or on your first day.
Every bot has its own personality: some charge forward, some build fortresses,
some treasure their strange pieces above all. You can challenge one directly, too.
Want to play a friend? Use a passphrase.
Anyone who enters the same word is matched with you.
■ No rules to memorize
Tap a piece and the squares it can move to light up.
Its ability is explained right below the board.
If an effect blocks a square, the board shows why.
Every piece you meet is added to your Encyclopedia.
Read up on them later, rate them, and see what other players think.

A piece that steps off the right edge and reappears on the left.
A piece that multiplies every time it moves.
A piece that pulls a faraway enemy right up to it.
A piece that keeps the allies in front of it from being captured.
There are many kinds, and more are on the way.
Which ones show up is a surprise every game.
■ Five minutes a game
Each player has 5 minutes. Run out and you lose. No byoyomi.
Just right for a commute or a break.
■ Ranks and rating
Win to climb, from 30 kyu all the way to 10 dan.
Daily, weekly and monthly rankings reward beating stronger players,
and losing to them never costs you points, so aim high.
Every game is saved as a record you can replay any time.
Share your rank and your wins on X as an image.
■ Collect titles and greetings
Spin the gacha once for every game you play, up to 3 times a day.
Combine words like "Fledgling" and "Rookie" to make your own title.
Build your in-game greetings from the phrases you collect.
More words are on the way.
■ No sign-up needed
No email, no password, no social login.
Open the app and start playing.
Moving to a new phone? Bring your records over with a transfer code.
You can delete your records from inside the app at any time.
■ Play with peace of mind
The only messages you can send during a game are greetings built from set phrases.
Free text can't be sent.
Long-press a player's name to report them.
■ Good to know
・Free to play. The monthly Premium Pass removes all ads and lets you spin the gacha up to 7 times a day.

・All games run on our servers, so an internet connection is required. Offline play isn't available.
