WALK INSIDE STONEHENGE
Visitors have been kept outside the stone circle since 1978. In Farstep you can walk straight through it. Stand under the trilithons, find the Altar Stone, and watch the midwinter sun set down the solstice axis, the same line it has followed for 4,500 years. Toggle Then to see the sarsen circle as it may have stood complete around 2500 BC, clearly labelled as a reconstruction.
STAND ON THE ROOF OF THE WORLD
The highest point in the world, built from real elevation data. Skip the Mount Everest climbing season: walk the last ridge of the climbing route to 8,849 m, look out over a sea of cloud, and find where the Hillary Step stood. You can't get closer to Everest without the $50,000 permit and the real risk.
LOOK INTO THE GRAND CANYON
One of the natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon comes from US Geological Survey elevation data: stand on the South Rim and read two billion years of rock in the coloured bands below. Yosemite Valley puts you on the valley floor beneath El Capitan and Half Dome.
WALK THE ANCIENT RUINS OF EUROPE
Megaliths of Europe brings five of the oldest monuments in the world in one pack: the great henge at Avebury, the Newgrange passage tomb in Ireland, the Neolithic village of Skara Brae on Orkney, the Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis and the Carnac alignments in Brittany. Hadrian's Wall puts you on the crags beside Housesteads fort, on a wall begun in AD 122.
