EDIT THE WORDS, NOT A BOX OVER THEM Click a paragraph and type. Washi takes the original text out of the page and sets yours in the closest match to the document's own font, size and colour. There is no white rectangle pasted over the old words for everyone to see.

PAPER INTO SOMETHING YOU CAN SEARCH Point your iPad or iPhone at a page; Washi finds the edges and straightens it. Then text recognition reads it — about thirty languages through Apple's engine, plus Persian through a second engine built into the app, because Apple's does not read Persian and neither does Acrobat. Hebrew and Arabic too. A whole folder of scans can be read in one pass.
SEARCHING THE WAY PEOPLE ACTUALLY TYPE Persian typed with the Arabic ي and ك, or with a space where the keyboard has no half-space key, still finds the word. Pointed Hebrew is found when you type it without the points. This sounds small until it is the difference between finding a word in a contract and not.
GETTING THE WORDS OUT Export to plain text or to Word. Persian, Arabic and Hebrew paragraphs are marked right-to-left in the file itself, so they open the right way round in Word, with the punctuation and the numbers where they belong. If the document has been through another converter and its text is in fragments, Washi says so and offers to read the pages again with its own recognition — which no other PDF app will do for you.
MAKING A SCAN SMALL ENOUGH TO SEND Every single-purpose app that shrinks a PDF does it by turning the pages into pictures and throwing the text layer away without telling you. Washi carries the text across, so the smaller file can still be searched. And if a document would not meaningfully shrink, it says so and writes nothing instead of ruining it for no gain.
REDACTION THAT ACTUALLY REMOVES The words are deleted from the file, not covered with a black box that anyone can select underneath. Washi shows you what will go before it goes.
A WORD ACROSS EVERY PAGE CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, محرمانه — drawn into each page's own content rather than attached as a note, so it cannot be selected and deleted. Persian, Arabic and Hebrew are laid out properly, and your document's own text is left exactly as it was.
