Mac app that just previews and opens SVG files. Zoom, pan, dark & checkerboard backgrounds, PNG/PDF/DXF export and one-click SVGO optimization. macOS can preview an SVG — but nothing opens it. Double-click and you end up in a browser tab or a code editor. PreviewSVG is the missing viewer: fast, native, offline. VIEW • Open .svg and .svgz (gzip-compressed SVG, which macOS itself mishandles) • Smooth zoom (2–6400 %) and pan, pinch or ⌘+/⌘−, double-click to toggle fit • Light, dark, system or checkerboard canvas — white artwork on a transparent background is finally visible • Wireframe view: every fill off, strokes kept — see how a drawing is built • Info panel: canvas size, rendered size, element/path/group counts, file size • Animated SVGs (SMIL) play right in the viewer EXPORT • PNG at 1×–8× with real transparency, or on white • Vector PDF • DXF (R12 or 2018) for CAD, laser and CNC workflows — arcs preserved, geometry taken from the original file OPTIMIZE • SVGO 3.3.2 (the industry-standard optimizer) runs right in the app, in a panel beside the artwork — no Node, no command line, fully offline • Presets: Standard, Aggressive, Icon, Safe for Animation — or set precision, multipass and each of the 40 plugins yourself • Switch between original and optimized right on the canvas; exact byte and gzip savings, element counts • Save the optimized SVG as a new file or copy it to the clipboard — the original is never touched • Files over 1 MB are optimized when you ask, so opening one never ties up your Mac PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Works completely offline, collects nothing, phones home never • Sandboxed; reads only the files you open Make PreviewSVG the default app for SVG in Settings → File Types, and double-click finally does the right thing.
