Myōhō Renge Kyō Yōhon is a digital sutra book containing selected passages from the Lotus Sutra traditionally used for daily recitation and ceremonies at Nichiren Shū temples and other temples in the Nichiren tradition. The app preserves the spirit of traditional printed sutra books while providing the readability and flexibility of a modern digital format. Features * Selected passages from the Lotus Sutra used in the Yōhon tradition * Vertical and horizontal text layouts * Pinch to resize the sutra text and pronunciation guides * Adjustable text size * Kana reading guides * Romaji readings for pronunciation * Multiple bookmarks for frequently recited passages * Adjustable fixed-speed auto-scroll with pause and resume controls * Recitation-following auto-scroll that advances the text as you recite in Japanese * A refresh button to restart matching from the current view if tracking pauses * Japanese and English interface * A simple design suitable for both daily recitation and ceremonies Recitation following processes microphone audio entirely on your device and matches it against the sutra’s pronunciation guides. Audio and matching results are neither saved nor transmitted externally. Scrolling pauses during silence or when a match cannot be confirmed. Sutra reading and fixed-speed auto-scroll remain available without microphone permission. The app is intended not only for users in Japan, but also for temples, clergy, practitioners, and anyone overseas interested in the Lotus Sutra and Japanese Buddhist recitation traditions. This app is independently developed by a Nichiren Shū priest and is not an official app of the denomination. The scripture data used by the app is also published on GitHub as “yohon-hokekyo-data.” The text, readings, and phrase divisions will continue to be reviewed and improved with practical recitation in mind. As we approach the 750th memorial observance of Nichiren Shōnin’s passing in 2031, one aim of this project is to help carry the teachings of the Lotus Sutra and its recitation tradition into today’s digital environment and make them more accessible in Japan and around the world.
