Onplana Schedule is a free desktop app for Mac that opens, edits and reschedules Microsoft Project .mpp files without Microsoft Project, and also opens Primavera P6 .xer, Project XML, ProjectLibre, GanttProject and Excel plans as a Gantt chart.
Microsoft Project XML files open on your Mac with no internet connection. Other formats need one: they are uploaded to Onplana's servers to be converted, and the uploaded copy is deleted within 24 hours.
How do I open an .mpp file without Microsoft Project?
Double-click it, or drop it on the window. You see a task grid beside a Gantt chart, with the links, milestones and critical path.
What is an .xer file?
A schedule exported from Primavera P6. It opens as a Gantt chart and saves as Microsoft Project XML; the .xer file is never changed.
How do I turn an Excel plan into a Gantt chart?
Open the .xlsx or .csv file, one row per task, or start from the Excel template on the start screen.
What is the critical path?
The chain of tasks with no float: if one slips, the finish moves. It is drawn in red, and every other bar is coloured by its float.
How do I check a schedule against the DCMA 14 points?
Plan, then Schedule quality runs the 14 checks, from logic and leads to CPLI and BEI, on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and each finding shows its tasks.
How do I compare two versions of a plan?
Plan, then Compare with another version. Bars show the other version's dates, and the Changes view lists tasks added, removed or changed, with a CSV export.
Edit and save
Type in the grid, drag a bar, draw a link. With automatic scheduling on, an edit moves the linked tasks, and undo takes it back. Save writes Project XML, which Microsoft Project and Onplana both open. A file opened as .mpp saves as a new Project XML file, so the original is never overwritten, and a recovery copy is kept while you work.
Resource usage
Each resource's work and actual work by month, week or day, with the assignments behind it and totals. Type actual work for a period, and export the view as CSV.

Generative AI
Optimize with AI, Describe a project and Ask AI use generative AI, on Onplana's servers and an AI provider, only when you choose them. Optimize with AI rewrites a copy of the plan you checked to level resources, compress the timeline or reduce risk; the result opens as a new plan. Describe a project writes a plan from what you type. Ask AI answers questions about the open plan and suggests changes you review before they apply; it needs an Onplana account and never sends the file. Review AI results before you rely on them. Know what leaves your Mac
Microsoft Project XML files open on your Mac. Other formats are uploaded to be converted, and the uploaded copy is deleted within 24 hours. A Microsoft Project XML file is uploaded only when you choose a health check or a publish. Before it uploads a file without an account, the app names the file and asks.

Publish imports a copy into a free Onplana workspace (2 projects, 5 members) that your team opens in a browser. The original file is not changed.
