Hold a hotkey, speak, release. Offline Whisper transcription tuned for Traditional Chinese.
lailaisay is a menu-bar dictation tool. Hold a hotkey, speak, and release: Whisper transcribes on your Mac, the text lands on the clipboard, and ⌘V pastes it into any app.
Features
• Fully offline speech recognition: whisper.cpp with Metal acceleration on Apple Silicon. Audio never leaves your computer.
• Built for Traditional Chinese: Taiwan-style characters, punctuation, number and list shaping, filler-word removal. English and mixed-language input work too.
• Custom dictionary and phonetic corrections for names, products and jargon.
• Choose your model: Whisper (tiny to large-v3-turbo) or Qwen3-ASR (1.7B / 0.6B). All models run on your Mac.
• Configurable hotkey with hold-to-talk and double-tap lock.
How it works
1. Pick and download a speech model on first launch
2. Allow the microphone
3. Hold ⌘⇧Space, speak, release
4. Press ⌘V in any text field
Privacy
Recognition runs entirely on your Mac. No recording and no text is ever sent to any AI service; the only network connection this app makes is downloading speech model files (Whisper or Qwen3-ASR) from Hugging Face.

1.1 adds Qwen3-ASR as a speech model option (downloaded by you, runs entirely on your Mac).
• Settings → Speech Model → Catalog download: choose Qwen3-ASR 1.7B or 0.6B alongside Whisper and switch any time
• In our tests, short dictation is noticeably faster than Whisper large-v3-turbo (results vary by Mac)
• Your custom dictionary is passed to Qwen as recognition hints
• If a Qwen model cannot load, the app falls back to Whisper and explains why in Settings
Qwen3-ASR is released by the Alibaba Qwen team under Apache-2.0. It runs on your Mac; no recording or text is uploaded. The only network connection is still downloading model files from Hugging Face.
