Album Diet: Free Up Storage
Compress photos, video, bursts
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
“Storage Almost Full”? Shrink photos and videos instead of deleting them. See how much you’ll free before you start. Nothing ever leaves your iPhone.
“Storage Almost Full” — solved without deleting your memories.
Album Diet shrinks your photos and videos in bulk and gives the space back.
And it tells you how much you’ll get before you start.
■ Press once, and see what you’ll get back
Just tap Scan. It goes through your iPhone and picks out only the photos and videos that will genuinely get smaller under your current settings.
・Photos that are already small aren’t counted
・Nothing is shrunk twice
・“About 3.2 GB will be freed” appears before you decide
Because you see the result first, you never give up quality for nothing.
■ Videos are usually what’s eating the space
A single clip shot in 4K can weigh as much as a hundred photos.
・Pick a preset (Everyday / Social / Chat and email / Keep the quality / As small as possible)
・Or set it yourself: resolution, quality, codec, frame rate, audio
・Play each one and trim off the parts you don’t need
・Audio is copied across untouched, so it never degrades
■ Keep one shot from each burst
It finds the bursts you took by holding the shutter. In Photos they look like a single image, so you can’t tell how many there are until you open one.
Keep one and delete the rest: the size drops with no loss of quality at all. It’s the best-value cleanup there is.
・Choose what to keep — iPhone’s pick, the first shot, or the last
・Go burst by burst and change the pick
・Favorites and edited photos are never deleted
■ Find what you can let go of, all at once
Beyond shrinking, there are tools for clearing out what you don’t need. None of them touch image quality.
・Similar photos: keep the best shot when you took the same scene several times
・Screenshots: delete old ones in one go (favorites are kept)
・Live Photos: keep the photo, drop just the 3-second video that plays when you touch and hold
・Largest first: pick the photos and videos taking up the most space
・Your iPhone’s free space is always shown at the top
■ What happens to the originals is your call
Keep them and you simply gain copies — no space is freed. Delete them and it is. The app says so plainly, on screen.
・Photos default to “Keep”, videos to “Delete”
・Deleting always asks first
・Deleted items sit in Photos’ “Recently Deleted” for 30 days
・Photo conversions can also be undone from inside the app
■ Your record of the shot stays intact
Date, location and camera settings are carried over. The order in Photos and the map still work.
For sending things on, you can also make a copy with just the location and device details removed. That one never touches the pixels, so the quality is exactly the same.
■ No networking. At all.
Neither photos nor videos ever leave your iPhone. Everything happens on the device — there is no server, and no account to create.
■ Who it’s for
・You’re out of space and can’t take another photo
・You don’t want to delete memories, and don’t have time to sort them
・You’d rather try this before paying for more iCloud
・Videos of the kids or of trips have filled the phone
・You have piles of burst shots you never went back to
Free. No in-app purchases, no ads.

■ Delete what you don’t need, right there
On the screens where you choose photos and videos, and on the tidy-up screens, view anything full screen and delete what you don’t need on the spot — one at a time, or everything you’ve selected at once. Deleted items stay in “Recently Deleted” for 30 days.
■ More ways to tidy up
Find them under “More ways to tidy up” on the Photos tab. None of them touch quality.
・Similar photos: keep one from several shots of the same scene
・Screenshots: delete old ones in one go (favorites are kept)
・Live Photos: keep the photo, drop just the motion
Each row shows roughly how much space tidying up would free.
■ Easier choosing
・“Largest first”: see the photos and videos taking up the most space first
・“Choose from albums”: pick from inside your albums
・“By date”: swipe left or right to move straight to the previous or next day
・Photos and videos you’ve already made smaller aren’t shown when choosing (changeable in Settings)
・Videos start playing as soon as you open them
■ Free space, always in view
The top of the Photos and Videos tabs shows your iPhone’s free space and how much this app has freed. Also available as a Home Screen and Lock Screen widget.
■ More peace of mind
・When space is low, you’re told before starting, and it stops before your iPhone fills up
・When originals are deleted, the smaller copies are added back to the albums the originals were in
・Before undoing, it checks that the originals are still there
・Favorites and edited photos aren’t counted by “Scan” (changeable in Settings)
■ Also
・Choosing is now a single, simpler card
・Rarely changed options moved to “More settings”
・“Your record” at the bottom of Settings (can be reset)
・Choose photos right from the Personal data tab
・Better layout with larger text sizes
