Unfold an iPhone Duo and the game now uses the room. The board keeps its full size, and your crawls and today's board sit in a column beside it, so you can see who you are chasing without leaving the game. Also fixed: some phones had quietly stopped getting the morning reminder.

Share a score now and the link comes from you. Whoever taps it lands on an invitation from a person rather than an advert from us — and you get the credit when they play. That is the whole update. Small, but it is the difference between telling somebody about Hashigo and actually handing it to them.

The sound a clearing ladder made lasted exactly one release. It was pitched so quietly you could barely hear it, which turned out to be the problem rather than the fix — forty of them in a run is a noise nobody asked for. It's gone. Every vibration in the game is stronger now instead, so your hand gets what your ear was getting. New: the third time you open Hashigo, it takes ten seconds to explain crawls — a private board for the Daily, the same deck everyone gets, just you and whoever you invite. Once, and never again whichever way you close it. The third time rather than the first because the first two belong to the game. Fixed: delete Hashigo and install it again and it now knows who you are straight away, rather than parking you in Endless for a launch while it works it out.

Turns out most of you had never played the Daily. Not because you didn’t want to — because we hid it behind a tab. Hashigo now opens on today’s Daily when you’ve got one waiting. New players still start in Endless, where nothing counts. The card that introduces the Daily has stopped reading like a ransom note, and the little grey button under it has admitted it takes you to Endless for a practice run. Also: a sound when a run starts, and a much quieter one when a ladder clears. Both respect your silent switch. We’re not animals.

Join a crawl and Hashigo now asks who you are, there and then. It used to ask a moment later, on the Daily card — a form field on a puzzle, with no visible reason for it. And until you answered, the crawl listed you as a number. Worse, everyone else who hadn't played yet was a number too, so the first thing you saw on joining a group of friends was a column of strangers. Now it asks at the join, it names the crawl, and your answer goes up straight away instead of waiting for your first score to carry it.

Hashigo can now be played with VoiceOver. Each ladder says what's on it, bottom to top, and how many rungs it has left. The card in your hand says what it is, and a wild says it plays on anything. The burn button says how many you have. The important part: the board used to say three things in colour alone — which ladder your card fits, which is nearly out of room, and which is dead. Now it says them aloud as well.

Hashigo makes a sound now — one struck note over the opening, and one at the end of a Daily. It obeys your silent switch, mixes with whatever you're already listening to, and will never pause a podcast. Endless stays quiet. Hashigo will also ask what you think of it once, after a week's streak or a dozen Dailies, and then never again.

Compare my path Everybody plays the same deck, so your run and everyone else's can be laid side by side. Tap the "..." beside your own name on a board to see how often you went the same way as the field, how long you lasted against everybody else, and the one turn worth changing — with the score that line would actually have reached. Also new • Your own name on a board now does something: see your result again, or copy it to paste somewhere. • A trophy for whoever is top. • Invite a friend straight from the game screen. Fixed • A score that can't get out no longer looks lost. With no signal it now says what actually happens, and posts itself when you're back online. • Your streak survives a reinstall.
