Dotwall turns your lock screen into a dot matrix.
Type anything, up to 90 characters, and Dotwall draws it in dots at this iPhone's exact pixel size. Or let the dots be the year, one for every day, with today lit up in your colour. Or your life in weeks, one dot for every week you have had and every week still ahead.
Three kinds of wallpaper:
Words: any text, drawn as a dot-matrix wallpaper.
Year: 12 columns for the months, 31 rows for the days. Past days lit, today in the accent colour. Tap any dot to read its date.
Life: 52 weeks across, 60 to 100 years down. The current week is the coloured one. Tap a dot to read its week. Your birthday stays on this iPhone.
Eight looks: Halftone, Board, Quiet, Pixel, Gradient, Neon, Flipdot and Stipple. Any ground colour, from black, graphite and navy to paper and cream, and any dot colour, from a swatch or the system colour picker. Eight accents, and sixteen app icons to match.
The preview is your lock screen. The date, the clock and the two bottom buttons are drawn over the wallpaper, so you see the finished screen before you save. Drag the dots up or down to move them out from under the clock, pinch to size them, swipe sideways for the next look, tap to hide the clock. The Place tray has Move and Size sliders if you prefer those.
Save draws the wallpaper at this iPhone's native pixel size and adds it to Photos as a PNG. Then Photos, Share, Use as Wallpaper. iOS does not let an app set the wallpaper itself; Photos is the two-tap hand-off.
Keep Year and Life current with Shortcuts. Dotwall gives Shortcuts an action, Get Today's Dotwall, that returns today's image at this iPhone's size. A daily automation at 00:05 that runs Get Today's Dotwall and then Set Wallpaper Photo keeps today's dot moving. The recipe is in Settings.
A Home Screen widget, Year in dots, in small, medium and large, drawn in your look and ground colour and redrawn every day.
Private by design. Dotwall has no account, no sync and no networking code at all. Your words, your birthday and your colours stay on this iPhone, in the app. The wallpaper is drawn here and saved to your own Photos with add-only access: Dotwall can add photos, never read them. No subscription, no in-app purchases.
