ShoHarmony
The shō, eleven aitake
$5.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Play the Japanese shō through its eleven traditional aitake clusters, explore how they connect, train your ear, and jam inside your DAW via AUv3.
Shō Harmony is an instrument lab dedicated to the shō — the Japanese free-reed mouth organ used in gagaku court music.
• Play a synthesized shō by hand, or sound any of its eleven traditional aitake tone clusters
• Combine clusters or tap individual pipes for fully custom voicings
• Transitions: a map of how the eleven aitake connect, based on how many pipes they share
• Sequencer: build, save and export progressions as MIDI or audio
• Ear Trainer: learn to identify each aitake by ear
• Theory: the instrument, gagaku, and the aitake explained, with real sound examples
• Includes an AUv3 instrument plugin — play the same shō synth from any MIDI track in GarageBand, Logic, or AUM
No samples, no internet connection, no account, no data collection — everything runs on your device.
