On one developer Mac: 110 items, 46.2 GB found, 21.3 GB safe to remove, in 5.6 seconds. Every item says what it is and how it comes back. Nothing leaves without your OK. GigBack finds the files your developer tools can recreate on their own: dependency folders, build output, package caches, Xcode data and old simulators. For every item it tells you what it is, what happens when it is gone and how to get it back. Nothing is removed until you confirm the exact list. WHAT IT DOES • Scans your home folder, plus any other folder or external disk you add. • Groups results into Projects, Caches, Xcode, Simulators, Homebrew, Docker, AI & Tools and Build Outputs. • Shows which project a folder belongs to and when you last worked on it, so old projects are easy to spot. • Reclaims all safe items in one step, or lets you pick items one by one. • Keeps a history of how much space you have reclaimed. • Optional menu bar mode shows the reclaimable size and can scan again on a schedule. On our own development Mac, one scan with every provider turned on took 5.6 seconds and found 110 items totalling 46.2 GB, of which 21.3 GB was marked safe. Your results depend on what is on your Mac. WHAT IT NEVER TOUCHES • Source code, .git folders and configuration files. • Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Mail and Messages as folders, and credential folders such as .ssh, .gnupg and .aws. Projects stored inside them are listed, but the protected folder itself is never a target. • Anything a rule doesn't match. You can't add arbitrary paths to delete. • System files. GigBack asks for no administrator password and installs no helper. HOW SAFETY WORKS • Evidence: most folders match only when their project file sits next to them. node_modules needs a package.json, target needs a Cargo.toml or pom.xml, and so on. A few names only one tool ever creates, such as __pycache__ and DerivedData, match on their own. • Risk levels: Safe (your tools recreate it, no data inside), Caution (getting it back costs a download or a rebuild) and Careful (may contain data or history). Careful items are never selected by default and need an extra confirmation. • Trash by default: items move to the Trash, so you can put them back. Permanent deletion stays off until you turn it on in Settings. • Re-check before removal: the list you confirm is frozen, and each item is checked again right before it moves. If a path changed or no longer matches its rule, it is skipped. • Active projects: folders changed in the last 24 hours, and folders a running process uses, are flagged and left out of the default selection. • Exclusions: exclude a finding or a folder and it won't be listed again. TOOLS IT UNDERSTANDS • JavaScript and TypeScript: node_modules, Next.js, Nuxt, SvelteKit, Astro, Vite, Turbo and more; npm, Yarn, pnpm, Bun and Deno caches. • Python: virtual environments, __pycache__, pytest, mypy and Ruff caches; pip, uv, Poetry and Conda caches. • Swift and iOS: SwiftPM .build, CocoaPods, Carthage. • Rust, Java (Maven, Gradle), .NET, Dart and Flutter, PHP (Composer), Ruby (Bundler), Elixir, Zig, CMake, Haskell (Stack), Terraform and Unity. • Xcode: DerivedData, archives, device support files, products and caches, plus iOS simulators one by one. • Homebrew download cache and old versions. • Docker: unused images, build cache, stopped containers and volumes. • AI model caches: Hugging Face, Ollama and PyTorch. • Editor caches: VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains IDEs. More than 70 rules in total. Each one tells you how the item comes back, for example npm install, cargo build or uv sync. GigBack runs in the App Sandbox, so it can't run Homebrew or Docker itself. For those items it shows the exact command, such as brew cleanup or docker image prune, to copy and run in Terminal. PRIVACY GigBack has no network access. It collects no data, has no analytics and needs no account. Scan results, history and settings stay on your Mac. ONE-TIME PURCHASE Pay once. No subscription, no in-app purchases.
