You've lived here for years, but most of the map might still be fog. Go for a walk and see which streets you've never been down.
WayTrove is a fog map. Places you haven't been are covered in fog, and the streets you walk clear it. Use it for a while and you might notice you take the same few streets every day, then start wondering about the one a block over.
Day to day
Turn on Everyday Fog Clearing and it records your commute, the lunch run, and the walk after dinner on its own. You don't have to press start each time. When you'd rather not be recorded, pause for 1 hour or turn it off.
GPS points that drift don't clear fog, and the app never guesses your route from the map. If a route breaks off or picks up an extra stretch, fix it in Edit Footprints.
Trips
Before a weekend drive or a road trip across a few states, tap Start Trip. It keeps recording with the screen locked or while you're taking pictures. The Lock Screen and Dynamic Island show how long you've been out, and you can pause along the way.
When you get back, the trip becomes a Trip Card with the route, time, and distance. You can replay the day's route at 4× or 16×.
Add that day's photos and videos to the card. They keep their original quality and capture dates, and you can shoot in the app too. With Suggested Memories on, WayTrove finds the photos you took along the route. You decide what goes in.
Footprint Map
The states and counties you visit light up on their own, with no check-ins. That covers all 50 states and 3,141 counties. There are more than 240 countries and regions in all; Japan, for example, is split into 47 prefectures and about 1,700 municipalities.
Each local area you've visited rises as a small island, with the streets you walked on it.
Import older routes from GPX or KML files with Import Footprints. They clear fog and count toward the Footprint Map.
Backup and storage
Your data stays on your iPhone. You can make encrypted backups to your own iCloud or Google Drive and restore them on a new phone. There's no account to create, and no ads or tracking.
If photos are filling up your phone, turn on Optimize Device Storage: the originals are kept encrypted in your cloud, and your iPhone keeps small copies.
When you share a photo, the app makes a copy without the location.

WayTrove is a paid download. No subscription and no in-app purchases.
Before you start
• Everyday Fog Clearing and trip recording need location access with Precise Location on. For Everyday Fog Clearing to record in the background, set location access to “Always.” Keeping location on all the time uses more battery.
• The base map needs an internet connection.
