Tunestack — Audio Switcher

Your devices, in your order

Mac

Your Mac picks audio by whatever plugged in last. Tunestack picks by what you actually want. Rank your devices once and it holds the order. Your Mac chooses audio output by whatever connected most recently. It has no idea which device you actually prefer. So your AirPods wake up in a drawer and steal the music. A monitor's USB hub hijacks your sound to tinny built-in speakers. You unplug headphones and the room hears what you were listening to. Tunestack fixes this in the most direct way possible: you rank your devices once, and it keeps them in that order. HOW IT WORKS Drag your devices into the order you want. Tunestack always selects the highest one on the list that is actually connected. Plug something in, pull something out, close the lid, wake it up — your audio lands where you decided it should. Output and input are ranked separately, so your podcast mic wins without your desk speakers losing. IT GETS OUT OF YOUR WAY Pick a device by hand and Tunestack stands down. You decide for how long — five minutes, an hour, or until you quit. Automation should lose to a deliberate human choice, and here it does. PROFILES Different desks want different orders. Keep one arrangement for work, another for home, another for the studio, and switch the whole thing in a click. PER-APP LEVELS See which apps are playing and set their volume independently. Turn down a browser without touching your music. NO PERMISSIONS FOR THE MAIN JOB Switching devices needs no permissions at all — no screen recording, no accessibility, nothing. Only the optional per-app levels feature asks for anything, and only when you switch it on. Tunestack has no network access whatsoever. It ships without the network entitlement, so macOS itself prevents it from connecting anywhere. No analytics, no accounts, no tracking. Verify it yourself with codesign. ONE THING IT CANNOT DO When an app opens its own audio session it can demand a specific device, and nothing on macOS can stop it. Tunestack can notice and switch back if you want it to — that setting is off by default, because with some apps it starts a tug-of-war. We would rather say this up front than have you discover it. REQUIREMENTS macOS 14.4 or later.
