Context Clue
Your time, place and weather.

Mac
Your local time, your city, the weather, today’s coffee count and your mood, right on your video. Free to use. One-time purchase of $6.99 removes the watermark forever.
Context Clue adds a small card to your video — your local time, where you are, the weather, and how many coffees deep you are — so the people you're talking to have a little more to go on.
It works by appearing as a camera. Once it's running, Context Clue shows up wherever you choose a camera, in Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, Teams and anything else that takes one. You pick it instead of your built-in camera, and everything else stays exactly as it was.
WHAT IT SHOWS
• Local time — the whole point when a call spans three time zones • Where you are — picked up automatically, or typed in yourself • The weather, from Apple Weather • A drink count, because someone always asks • Your mood — Ready to go, Swamped, or your own words — so people know how you're doing
Turn on as much or as little as you like. The card sizes itself to whatever is switched on, and sits in whichever corner you choose — or in the middle, if a meeting app is cropping the sides of your video. Prefer one line? The compact layout puts everything in a single strip.
STEP AWAY WITHOUT GOING DARK
Pause Video swaps your picture for a soft, blurred still of your room while your card keeps going out, so nobody is left looking at a black rectangle. Add a reason if you like — lunch, getting the door, coffee, or your own words.
FREE, AND FULLY FUNCTIONAL
Every feature is free. There's no trial, nothing is held back, and what's free stays free.
The free version adds a small "Context by Context Clue" mark to one corner of your video. A single $6.99 purchase removes it, forever. There is no subscription.
PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION
Your video never leaves your Mac. It is processed on the spot and passed straight through to whichever app you've selected. Nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded, and no analytics are collected.
The part of Context Clue that handles your video runs as a macOS camera extension with no network access at all — it cannot reach the internet, and macOS enforces that rather than us promising it.
If you turn on Weather, an approximate location goes to Apple's WeatherKit to fetch the forecast. That is the only thing that ever leaves your Mac, and it never comes to us.
BEFORE YOU START
macOS will ask you to approve Context Clue's camera extension in System Settings the first time you open it. That is what lets it appear as a camera, and the app walks you through it.
Requires macOS 14 or later.
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Camera on only when you need it
Context Clue now turns your camera on when Zoom, Google Meet, Teams or another meeting app uses it, and off again when the call ends, so the camera light only shows while someone can see you.
Settings
A new Settings window, under Context Clue > Settings. Open Context Clue at login so it is ready for every meeting, and choose whether the camera manages itself.
Also new
- Choose Celsius or Fahrenheit, and whether to show the letter, in the Weather section
- An empty location is now left off your card
- Fixed: Window menu items disappearing while the camera was on
