Lunette: Moon Phase & Sun
Phases, sunset & golden hour
$2.99
Tonight's Moon in your menu bar, with sunrise, sunset, golden hour, eclipses you can see and alerts for the full moon. Worked out on your Mac, no network.
Tonight's Moon, and the day's Sun, in your menu bar.
Lunette puts the Moon in the menu bar at its real phase, with the next sunrise or sunset beside it. Click it and the whole sky for the day opens up. Any other day is a click away.
THE MOON
• A real photograph of the Moon, lit as it is tonight, and turned the right way up for your hemisphere.
• The phase, how much of it is lit, and when the next full moon, new moon or quarter comes.
• Moonrise and moonset where you are, with the direction on the horizon, and how far away it is tonight. Supermoons are marked.
• The next four principal phases, to the minute.
THE SUN
• Sunrise, sunset and the length of the day, and how it compares with yesterday.
• A chart of the day: the Sun's arc over the horizon, coloured by what the sky is doing — night, twilight, blue hour, golden hour, day — with the Moon's path dotted across it.
• Golden hour and blue hour, morning and evening, for planning a photograph. Civil, nautical and astronomical twilight too.
• A compass with where the Sun and Moon rise and set.
• Midnight sun and polar night are handled properly, not shown as errors.
ECLIPSES
The next solar and lunar eclipses, and whether you can see them from where you are: how much of the Sun is covered and when it is greatest, worked out for your own spot.
ANY DAY
Step through the days or pick a date to plan an evening: the Moon, the rises and sets and golden hour for that day.
ALERTS
Choose what you want to hear about: the full moon as it rises, the new moon, golden hour, sunrise, sunset, moonrise, or an eclipse you can see — with a lead time of your choice.
WIDGETS
Small and medium widgets for the desktop and Notification Centre, with the same Moon.
WORKED OUT ON YOUR MAC
Every figure is calculated on your Mac from the formulas astronomers publish. No weather service behind it, nothing to download, nothing to go out of date. Rise and set times agree with the US Naval Observatory's almanac to within a minute or two, and eclipses with NASA's.
PRIVACY
Lunette asks for your location only to work out rise and set times where you are. It keeps it rounded to about a kilometre, on your Mac, and has no network access, so it could not send it anywhere if it tried. No account, no analytics, no tracking. Prefer not to share your location? Lunette uses your time zone's main city instead, and the Moon's phase needs no location at all.
