A security-deposit dispute is won or lost by what you can prove about the day you moved in. MoveWitness is a room-by-room photo and note record for exactly that day — and the day you move out — with nothing to set up first.
Add a property, start an inspection, walk the rooms. Photograph what you see, write a note if something needs one, and move to the next room. When you're done, complete the inspection — every room, note and photo on it locks immediately, so nothing can be added, edited, or quietly removed later, before or after a dispute.
Generate a PDF report and share it however you need to — email it to a landlord, a tenant, or keep it for your own records.
Everything stays on your device. There's no account to create, no login, and nothing is sent anywhere — the whole record lives in local storage until you choose to share it.
MoveWitness is a record of what was observed and photographed, on the dates shown. It is not legal advice, and it does not by itself decide a security-deposit claim — deposit rules vary by state and sometimes by city, so check your own state's statute or a lawyer in your state for anything that turns on the law rather than the record.

ACCURATE PHOTO TIMESTAMPS
Photograph each room, from the camera or your library. Where a photo carries its own capture date the report shows that date; where it carries none, the report shows when you added the photo and says so. Neither is ever guessed.
ELEVEN STATES' DEPOSIT LAW, BUILT IN
The property screen shows a summary of that state's security-deposit statute for eleven states — Utah, California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina and Washington — with the section, the official source, and the date it was last checked. Three put something close to this app directly into the law. California requires landlords to photograph the unit at the start of any tenancy beginning on or after July 1, 2025, and again at move-out from April 1, 2025, both before and after any repair or cleaning charged to the deposit (Cal. Civ. Code § 1950.5(g)). New York requires landlords to offer a move-in inspection; if the tenant accepts, a signed written condition statement bars any later deduction for what it noted (N.Y. Gen. Oblig. Law § 7-108(1-a)(c)). Washington makes a landlord liable for the entire deposit if it collected one without providing a written move-in checklist (RCW 59.18.260(2), (5)).

Fixes an accuracy problem with photo timestamps: a photo with no capture date in the file is now clearly labeled as the time it was added, never shown as a capture time. The integrity-digest footer now explains exactly what it covers and that regenerating a report does not reproduce an earlier digest. A photo that's present but can't be read now says so instead of reading as missing. Also fixes two rare bugs: a double-tap on Start move-in/move-out, and a condition rating discarding a note you just typed.
