BufferedTV brings the federated video network to your iPhone and iPad.
PeerTube is video hosting that nobody owns. Instead of one company running one site, thousands of independent servers, called instances, host their own videos and share them with each other. BufferedTV lets you watch all of it.
BROWSE
Trending, recently added, live now, top rated, and videos local to your instance, with a featured pick at the top and a full grid behind every shelf. On iPad, a sidebar takes you anywhere in a tap.
SEARCH THE WHOLE NETWORK
Searching a single instance only reaches that server and the ones it follows, so a channel you know exists often won't turn up. BufferedTV searches the whole public network by default, through SepiaSearch, and plays what it finds, wherever it lives. Narrow the search back to your own instance whenever you like.
SIGN IN, OR DON'T
Sign in to any instance for your subscriptions, playlists, Watch Later, history and continue watching, with two-factor sign-in supported. Or browse without an account and sign in later.
WATCH PROPERLY
Every video has one page: the player at the top, and everything else underneath. Videos play at the best quality the instance published, not whatever your connection settles for, and you can change quality while you watch. Turn your iPhone on its side and the video fills the screen. On iPhone Duo, stand it up like a laptop and the video plays on the top half, with the controls and comments below. Picture in Picture keeps it playing while you do something else, AirPlay sends it to the TV, and what's playing shows on the Lock Screen and in Control Centre. Where you got to syncs back to your instance, so you can pick up on another device.
SAVE IT FOR LATER
One tap saves a video to Watch Later, and another takes it out. Save to any of your playlists too, with a tick by each one it's already in.
HAVE YOUR SAY
Like or dislike, subscribe to the channel, share, and read, write and reply to comments. Everything goes to your own instance, so the channel sees it wherever it lives.
SUBTITLES IN YOUR LANGUAGE
Point the app at a LibreTranslate server, free software you can run yourself, and it translates a video's subtitles into your language while you watch. It's off until you switch it on, and there's no default server: the subtitle text goes only to the server you name.
YOUR FEED, YOUR RULES
Block an account, or the whole server it lives on, and it disappears from everywhere in the app at once, comments included. No account needed, and easy to undo. Something worse than annoying? Report a video or a comment to the moderators, straight from the video.
PARENTAL CONTROLS
Sensitive videos are hidden until you choose otherwise, and hidden everywhere: every list, links and Siri. Set a four-digit parental PIN and nobody can change that without it, or choose Ask for the PIN to list them blurred and enter the PIN before one plays. If the device shares an age range under 18, they stay hidden whatever the setting.
YOURS TO ADJUST
Full screen playback, best-available quality, autoplay, resume and progress sync are all settings, and Siri and Shortcuts can play what's trending or open your subscriptions.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No analytics. No tracking. No advertising. No third-party SDKs. The app has no server of its own behind it and reports nothing to us. Your password goes only to the instance you chose, and your sign-in is kept in your device's keychain. Subtitle translation, the one feature that sends anything elsewhere, is off by default and uses a server you choose.
ONE APP FOR EVERY SCREEN
The same free app runs on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad. Sign in to the same instance on each and your subscriptions, playlists and progress come with you.

Watch offline. Tap Download on a video’s page and it stays on your iPhone or iPad, subtitles and all, ready to play with no connection. Open BufferedTV offline and it goes straight to your downloads; online, they’re in the Library. Downloads wait for Wi-Fi unless you let them use mobile data, and they’re deleted 30 days after they finish. You can change both in Settings.
Your settings now follow you. Through iCloud, your settings, blocks and the instance you use stay the same on your iPhone and iPad, whether or not you’re signed in. Sign-ins, downloads and parental controls stay on each device.
On iPhone Duo, BufferedTV now makes the most of the fold.
• Stand it up like a laptop and the video plays on the top half. Play, pause, skip and the scrubber sit on the bottom half, with the channel, Subscribe and the comments.
• Open it out like a book and the video stays on one side while the comments and more from the channel scroll on the other.
• Opened flat, nothing lies across the crease: videos stop above it and grids put their columns either side.
Also, the row of buttons under a video no longer slides beneath the tab bar.
