• Interlaced video from DVDs, TV recordings and camcorders is now deinterlaced as it plays, so moving edges stay smooth instead of showing comb-like lines. • 1080i H.264 from camcorders and TV recordings plays smoothly and seeks quickly. • Plays WebM files, and VP9 video in MKV and WebM files on Macs with Apple silicon. • MKV files with MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 video, or uncompressed (PCM) or Apple Lossless audio, now play. • Clearer messages when a video can’t be played.

This update makes Leah faster and smoother with every kind of video. • Smoother scrubbing: dragging along the timeline now follows your pointer more closely and shows the picture sooner. • Faster timeline previews: preview pictures appear sooner when you hover over the timeline, even in long or 4K videos. • More reliable sound after you skip, scrub or jump to a new point. • Subtitles stay in time more precisely. • Under-the-hood work to make playback more stable.

• Subtitle files: a subtitle file next to the video with the same name, such as Movie.srt, now shows up on its own. Drag in any other, or choose Playback > Add Subtitle File. SRT, WebVTT, ASS and SSA files work. • Now Playing: play, pause, skip and move through the video from Control Center, your keyboard's media keys or your headphones, with the video's cover art when it has one. • Faster start: videos begin playing a moment after you open them, without the pause before the sound on Bluetooth headphones. • Smoother seeking: skipping, holding an arrow key and dragging along the timeline all respond faster, including in 4K videos.
