Every project in its own tile, right on your desktop. Drop files in, collapse what you're not using, find everything at a glance. No cloud, no account. Desktop Upgraded. Thank you for the review. Answers to your questions (build 1.0 (6)): 1. Recordings (attached to our reply; physical Apple silicon Mac, macOS 27, clean install, made with build 4 - the later builds only change the first-launch window ("Start DeskTiles at Login" is now unchecked by default), some window and label fixes, and the Start at Login handling). Recording 1 starts by launching the app. On the first launch only (no tiles yet) DeskTiles plays a short intro animation with sound (the recordings have no audio track), then a layout selection screen with a start button ("Create Projects Layout", "Create Organize Layout", "Create Both Layouts" or "Continue Without a Layout"), then a "Five DeskTiles basics" panel closed with OK. It then shows the typical flow: dragging files from Finder onto a tile and back out, expanding, collapsing and moving tiles, Quick Look previews, Edit Style, Save / Recall Layout and Close Tile (moves the tile's files back to the Desktop). Recording 2 (about 15 seconds) shows a later launch: the app opens directly with the user's tiles, without the intro. No accounts, login, user-generated content or in-app purchases (paid app, one-time purchase). 2. Purpose and audience: DeskTiles adds "project tiles" to the macOS desktop. Each tile is a real folder inside the app's tiles folder that expands to show its files or collapses into a pill. It is for people who work from the desktop (designers, developers, freelancers, researchers) and want projects grouped by context instead of scattered files. Files stay normal files, visible in Finder; files dropped onto a tile are moved into its folder. 3. Setup: no account or sign-in. On the first launch choose a starting layout and press the start button (or "Continue Without a Layout" and press Cmd+N for a new tile). "Start DeskTiles at Login" is optional and unchecked by default; the app registers as a login item only if the user checks it or enables it later in Settings, and if macOS requires approval the app explains it and opens System Settings > Login Items. This first-run flow appears once, while no tiles exist. To test: drag any file or folder from Finder or the Desktop onto a tile and back out; double-click a tile header to collapse or expand; press Space on a file for Quick Look; Edit Style customizes a tile; Save / Recall Layout is in the menu bar; Cmd+W closes a tile and moves its files back to the Desktop; Help > Keyboard Shortcuts lists every shortcut. Any files work. 4. External services: none. No server, account, analytics, telemetry or third-party SDKs; payment is processed by Apple. "Report a Bug" and "Say Hello" only open the user's own mail app with a pre-filled message. The network client entitlement is used only by macOS Quick Look to render docx/xlsx; the app itself does not connect to any server. 5. Regional differences: none. The app works identically in all regions. 6. Regulated industry or third-party material: not applicable. 7. Guideline 2.5.8: DeskTiles does not replace or emulate the macOS desktop, Finder, Dock, menu bar or Spaces, and does not host other apps. It is a file organizer: each tile is a regular folder inside the app's tiles folder (visible in Finder), shown as a small panel on top of the normal desktop. Files stay in those folders and remain accessible in Finder. Tiles can be hidden with one shortcut or closed at any time, and the standard desktop works as usual. 8. Windows: tiles are borderless panels on the desktop by design (name header; closed with Close Tile, Cmd+W). All other windows (Settings, Help, first-launch window, Edit Style, Color Presets, Layout Gallery, layout position panel) use a standard title bar with a close button.
