Design your own font with Apple Pencil, then use it in every app. Lansdown Foundry turns your strokes into a real, installable typeface, with the thick-and-thin of a pen, kerning and accents, in Regular, Bold and Italic. Apple Pencil is required to draw on iPad.
START FROM A STENCIL, OR FROM NOTHING
• Suffolks: a warm book serif drawn with a broad pen, with bracketed serifs and ball ends
• Battledown: a clean, rounded sans drawn with a round pen
• From scratch: just the guide lines, and a font of only what you draw Trace the stencil's dashed lines and your letters replace it one by one. Letters you haven't drawn yet stand in from the design, so your font works from the very first stroke.
DRAW WITH A REAL PEN Every stroke is drawn with a calligraphic nib, so thick and thin come from the pen itself. Press harder and the stroke gets heavier at that point. Change the nib's width, thickness and angle, or switch to a round nib for even strokes, and every letter redraws.
KEY LETTERS DO THE WORK Draw the n and you get h, m and u. The o brings b, c, d, e, p and q; the H brings I, E, F, L and T; the comma brings the quotes and apostrophes; the full stop brings the colon and ellipsis. Accented letters follow their letter, so a whole Western European character set comes along. Show only the key characters to see how few you need to draw.
ADD A LITTLE FLAIR Put a ball, a curl or a swash on the end of any stroke, turn it whichever way you like, and size it with a slider. Serifs follow your stems wherever you draw them.
FINISHED LIKE A REAL FONT • Spacing measured from your letters, so a wide letter gets a wide space • Automatic kerning, and your own adjustments for any pair • Bold, Italic and Bold Italic made from your drawing, as one family • Figures, punctuation and symbols, drawn or filled in for you
USE IT EVERYWHERE Install your font on your iPad or Mac and it's in Pages, Keynote, Procreate and other apps that use installed fonts. Or export it as TrueType, WOFF and WOFF2 for your computer and the web, with a cover and thumbnail ready for your shop.
